I Lesson Prayer LESSON PRAYER: Dear Father, we thank Thee that each of us has a task t o perform and that to be aware of Thy will for us, we must have high moments of dedication followed by difficult hours of testing. May we be ever mindful of the wilderness experience of Jesus Christ Thy Son who overcame every temptation and was strengthened by the experience to dedicate himself to fulfilling his task of bringing in Thy- kingdom. on jearitef CLERICUSSAYS CLERICUS SAYS: The penetration of. Jesus personality into human relationships made it possible for him to better understand human needs- Jesus had to know the meaning of temptation to help those who were tempted. Just as Jesus got nis values straightened out in the wilderness, so we all need to establish values at the outset of our careers as Christians. It seems to be one of the ways of life that a wilderness follows close updh the heels of every great experience. Since JesuS knew how to become/victor over all temptations, he is able to give victory to those who are tempted for his sake and for his cause. I Wisdom One man said to another on New Year’s Eve, “Well, I’ve resolved this coming year that I am going to follow the TEN COMMANDMENTS.” “Why not try catching up with them for change?” commented! his companion. j „ i

The Church Invites You Men are Inclined to measure time In short periods —a day, a week, or a year, but the message of the Eternal is of the long look in which ”• thousand years are but a dgy.” Jesus told his followers to take this long look ahead, measuring values not by a time period but in terms of eternity. Resolutions should not be made for a year, but for ' always. As we begin a new year, many are concerned, pessimistic, have a sense of hopleMheos, regarding the state of the world. We cannot have a truly hippy year unless our minds and hearts are centered on eternal vales, remembering the goodness of God and the words of the Psalmist, “Thou crownest the year with Thy goodness.” We must cling to God’s promises if we are to have peace of mind and serenity. The church proclaims the word of God. WHY NOT ACCEPT THE INVITATION AND COME TO CHURCH NEXT SUNDAY? Our ma w Mt Yesterday is a cancelled check. Tomorrow is a promissory note. Today is ready cash. Use it wisei ly. It is the most precious prossession you can have. A HAPPY HOME Bishop Hazen G. Werner has said, “More and more the forces of religion are directed toward the family. There is a growing conviction that the intimate relations in the home are sacred, that the ability to make religion concrete is best accomplished in the family, that the forces of religion in family life offer the most powerful defense against a coarsening culture and the growing feeling of meaninglessness in the world aroud us.” Truly the Christian home has a vital infulence in bringing about a better world. THE BETTER WAY The most- secure man among us today' is the convict in the penitentiary. He has ho worries as .to food .or twenty-four hours he is regimented, he makes no plans, he does not direct his comings or goings. The sunrise and sunset, the trees, the flowers, the blue sky, and all the things that make life /forth living are not his prerogative to enjoy, but he does have security. Security is overstressed today to the point of minimizing personal 'responsibility, thrift independence of thought and action, all those qualities that made our founding fathers able to establsh this great country. Instead of hailing security as the goal of life, one should remember that the price of liberty and security is not compatible the • lives .of hone . st . man ’- Youth Society To Conduct Service Sunday evening, at the Church of the Nazarene, the youth society of the church will be in charge of the evangelistic service, with Ernest Pelz, a young businessman from Fort Wayne, as the special speaker. The youth choir will sing, and there will be special music by the young men’s trio. Thep üblic is jnvited to this service. This is the first of a series of special services to be sponsored by the youth of the church. Each “Five-Sunday month” they will be in charge of the evangelistic serv- ! ice on the fifth Sunday evening of that month. Mrs. Donna Watson lis the president of the youth ' group.

Two Worship Services At Methodist Church After last Sunday's one service on Christmas Sunday tor families, worship services at the First Methodist church will be held again at 8:30 and 10:30 o’clock Sunday, and each Sunday thereafter. Recognition for callage and vocational students will be observed at the 10:30 service this Sunday. CHURCH FORUM WHAT IS THE PRICE OF HUMAN LIBERTY? There iss a price tag on human liberty. That price is the willingness to assume responsibility of being a free man. Payment of this price is a personal matter with each of us and is not something we can get others to pay for us. To let others carry the responsibilities of freedom and the work and worry that accompanies them, while we share only in the benefits, may be a very human impulse, but it is also very likely false. James A. Farley once said, “If the choice of liberty or security is given us, we must scorn the latter with the proper contempt of free men and the sound judgment of wise men, who know that liberty and security are not compatible in the lives of honest men.” - _ , - ■ l>ll I JN ■»! < ARNOLD LUMBER CO., INC.
