Giants Resume Practices For Pro Title Tilt o i NEW YORK (UPD — The New : York Giants are rigging their de- ; sense with the idea that Paul ; Hornung will play for the Green ; Bay Packers next Sunday, but if | Tom Moore should start instead of him, it won’t make any difference. i - That was the view expressed today by coayh Al Sherman before taking his Giants to Bear Mountain, 40 miles north of New York City, to resume practice for I Sunday’s National Football League championship game at Yankee Stadium. t “Whether Hornung plays or doesn't play makes no difference to our defensive preparation,” Sherman said. “We are going ahead on the assumption that he i will play, and we expect him to! play at full speed. Makes No Difference “But if it’s Moore, the pressure; will be just the same on” our defense,” continued the analytical Giants’ coach. “Moore is just as big as Hornung. ' Both weigh around 215 to 220. And there's a very close resemblance in what both can do. “Moore is not only'"a fine runner, but like Hornung he’s a threat on the pass-run option play and he’s a good pass-catcher,” emphasized Sherman, who today was voted United Press International coach of the year in the NFL. The question of the Giants’ defensive preparation arose because of Hornung’s gimpy knee, which has kept him out of about half the Packers’ games this season. In last year’s 37-0 Green Bay victory over New York in the championship game, Hornung set a playoff record by scoring 19 points. Besides his obvious talents on offense, Hornung is an excellent blocker and a “clutch” player. , Has Played Little Hpwever t since he was injured in the Minnesota game, Oct. 14, I Hornung has played little. His main achievements since then were touchdown catches in each of the Green Bay victories over Los Angeles, Dec. 2 and 16. During Hornung’s absence, Moore' has averaged 3:4 •yards tji 112 rushes, scored •''Seven touchdowns, completed two of five passes, both of them for TD’s, and caught 11 passes. Yet while Moore may measure up to Hornung statistically, there are many who feel he may not be able to provide the kind of inspirational spark that Hornung did in last year’s big game.
