r— Historical club has TURKEY DINNER The Christmas party of the historical club was held recently at the home of Mrs. Blanche Robinson. There were twenty-two members present. At noon, a bountiful turkey dinner was served at tables beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. The meeting was operfcd by group singing and Mrs. Wesley Lehman led in prayer. Mrs. Agnes Wright gave the story of ‘Christmas on the Map." A Christmas exchange was enjoyed and each member revealed her secret pal and new names were drawn for the next year. A social hour was then enjoyed. The committee in charge was Mesdames Blanche Robinson, Gaylie Bittner, Agnes Wright t Margaret Price, Anna Rancher, Mildred Von Gunten, Virginia Hazelwood, and Florence Anderson. The next meeting will be January 2 with Mrs. Nancy Passwater. GOLDEN AGE GROUP HAS MEETING The Golden Age group of the Methodist church met in the church parlors Thursday afternoon. There were 25 members present. Mrs. Helen Baughman was in charge of the meeting. Christmas carols were sung and Mrs. Clara Passwater read a poem, “Christmas Cheer," and gave the devotions. Little Miss Melissa Morrison gave two readings, “Mother and Christmas” and “The Photographer." Her mother, Mrs. Eugene' Morrison, gave two readings, “Behold that Star” and “Story of the Christmas Guest," by Helen Steiner. A social hour was then enjoyed. Lovely refreshments were served by the committee, Mrs. Pearl Heller, Mrs. Fanny Elzey and Mrs. Bertha Heuer. MESHBERGER EMPLOYES GUESTS AT DINNER Mr. and Mrs. Ronald D. Fryback were hosts to the employes and wives of the Meshberger Bros. Stone Corp, at the annual Christmas cnnner given at the Palmer House in Berne Wednesday evening, December 19. The tables, arranged by Miss Sprunger, assisted by Miss Barbara Burry, were beautifully decorated in red and white. After a dinner of roast turkey and ham, Gale Stopher provided the entertainment with his humorous balloon sculpturing act. Iri recognition of 25 years of service with corporation, the Frybacks presented a gold wrist watch to Wilbert Heil; an orchid to Mrs. Hell. Several contest and door prizes were awarded, after which the employes presented to Mr. and Mrs. Fryback, several pieces of sterling silverware. • During the evening Christmas 1 hymns were sung by the group. CHRISTMAS PARTY HELD BY TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB The Town and Country home demonstration club held its annual Christmas party at the Country Charm restaurant Wednesday evening. A delicious dinner was served at 6:30 p.m. to 12 members and two guests. The dining room and table were beautifully decorated in keeping with the holiday season. U. girls of the Fairway held their anual Christmas party recently in the beautifully de, corated Villa Lanes dining room. A three-course steak dinner was enjoyed by all. Sunday, at high noon, Miss Barbara Joan Kalver became the bride of Donald Hugh Bernstein. The wedding took place in the Achduth Vesholom Temple, Fort Wayne, with Dr. Frederick A. Doppelt performing the doublering ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kalver, 508 North Second St., are the parents of the bride and the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Herbert S. Bernstein, Highland Park, 111. The altar of the temple was a bower of green, formed by Woodwardia trees, complemented with beauty vases of magnplia and snowball chrysanthemums. The aisle was gold carpeted and there were aisle arrangements of pink doves, white carnations and "gold cord. - As the bride walked down the aisle on the arm of her father, she was wearing a gown of silk-faced peau de soie and Alencon lace. The fitted bodice was fashioned with elbow-length sleeves, and a scooped neckline, embellished with em- ■ brbidered lace, studded with pearls ■ and crystal beads. The skirt sea- 1 tured a sheath front, adorned with sprays of appliqued lace from waist to hemline. The full, bouffant back fell gracefully to a chapellength train. Her veil of shoulderlength illusion was' held by a jewelled crown. She earned an ' heirloom Bible, belonging to the ■ bridegroom's famiy, with an ar- ; rangement of stephanotis, minia- 1 ture ivy, lace and satin streamers. ■ The bride’s sister, Mrs. Neil i Heavy Traffic Toll In Stale Mars Holiday By United Press International Indiana’s traffic death toll for the 102-hour Christmas weekend, already in double figures, threat ened today to be one of the worst in recent years with the holiday still more than 36 hours to go. At least 13 deaths, many linked to icy road conditions, had been counted since Friday evening, pushing the state-wide toll for the year to at least 1,198, compared with 1,051 a year ago. Safety officials had predicted a highway toll of 17 to 21 for the holiday period. Authorities said at least seven of the fatalities had treacherous road conditions as a contributing factor. An woman was killed Sunday night when a ear driven by her husband skidded on iceslick Indiana 67 near Middletown and collided with another car headon. Mrs. Rose Mary Franklin, 50, was the victim. Her husband, Homer, 50, Was one of three persons hospitalized in critical condition. Four other persons were injured in the wreck. Included in the grim traffic report were two double-fatality

Judge Orders Mistrial In Hoffa Case NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UPD—Federal Judge William E. Miller declared a mistrial Sunday in the conspiracy trial of Teamster President James Hoffa and ordered _ a grand jury investigation of "shameful” attempts to bribe jurors. The mistrial was declared after the jury had deliberated 17 hours and- imported they were "hopelessly deadlocked.” It was only after the final deadlocked report that Miller disclosed that three efforts had been made to tamper with jurors during the nine week trial. He called the attempts "shameful’’ and ordered a grand jury investigation. The ££and jury investigation was expected to get underway early In January with presentation of evidence. > The fiery little Teamsters toss I said he was "naturally disappointed” at no acquittal and strode , from the courtroom followed by his huge entourage of lawyers, secretaries and bodyguards. The mistrial climaxed an involved, nine-week trial enlivened by one armed attack on. Hoffa and two mysterious secret sessions. It was disclosed Sunday that one of the secret sessions were called to hear reports from the Justice Department on jury tampering. The other was to hear a request for a mistrial from Hoffa’s attorneys on grounds that FBI agents visited homes of relatives and friends of the juors. Hoffa's lawyers charged that I FBI agents told them there was ■ a $5,000 reward for information ■ on anyone who had contacted the t jury. Miller denied the motion. ' L !
