In many countries, it is traditional to recreate in some fashion the events which took place in Bethlehem. The Nativity scene is most popular. In some countries, however, an annual holiday play is staged, with live actors portraying the important roles. In the photo above, a 60-year-old shepherd plays the role of St. Joseph and a 29-year-old woman acts as the Madonna as they soothe “Baby Jesus’’ in the crib set up in an Italian stable.
GREAT TREE North Carolina claims the living Christmas tree with the greatest limb spread—a 300-year-old live oak, about 90 feet tall, at Wilmington. It has a branch spread of 110 feet and a trunk circumference of 15 feet. It grows in Hilton Park. --At Christmas time, it displays 7,000 colored lights and tons of Spanish moss.
