Berne Scores 7th Straight Win Saturday Berne's Bears rolled merrily along to their seventh victory without a defeat Saturday night, knocking off the previously undefeated Leo Lions, 77-54, at the Berne gym. Berne jumped out to a seven-point lead, 20-13, at the first quarter. Spartans Snap Losing Streak With Victory The Pleasant Mills Spartans snapped a six-game losing streak Saturday night to score their victory of the season, whipping the Petroleum Panthers by a 71-49 tally at the Popular Grove gym. Hie Spartans held only a twopoint margin at the first quarter, 15-13, and a three-point lead at the half, 31-28, but poured in 20 points in each of the last two periods for the victory, taking a 51-37 advantage into the final quarter. Rex Funk topped the Spartans with 20 points, trailed closely by Dave Currie with 19. Dave Myers chipped in with 14 and Gary Clouse with 13. Shoemaker, of Petroleum, was the game's top scorer with 32 points, but had little help from his mates. The Spartans will entertain the Huntington Catholic Ramblers at Pleasant Mills Tuesday night. Four players hit double figures as the Monroe team won its fourthe straight, topped by Jerry Allred’s 22 tallies. Wrestlers To Open Home Card Thursday fl . / K- fl Gary Giessler The Decatui- high school Booster club will sponsor a “Parents Night” .program as the Decatur high school wrestling squad opens its home season Thursday. The home opener is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, as the Decatur boys play host to Manchester’s wrestling team. Prior to the start of the match, parents of the wrestlers will be seated in a special section reserved for them, and will be introduced to those in attendance, Jim Cowens president of the Booster club, announced. 25c Admission • Admission to the meet is 25 cents ■ per person, and it is hoped a large 1 crowd will be in attendance for the match. The Decatur squad, coached by Gary Giessler, is currently holding a record of one victory and one defeat. The local boys opened their season at Noblesville, bring home t a convincing 36-16 win. Last week, Giessler’s crew sufi sered a close 25-23 defeat at the hands of rugged New Haven, which gave proof of the improvement of

PAUL CONRAD, Jr., of Decatur, is currently working on his M. A. degree at Adams State College in Aalmosa, Colorado. Paul, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul W. Conrad, Sr., of 417 Fornax St., is working towards his degree in conjunction with a graduate assistantship. Paul’s duties included assistant line coach on the football team, that finished its 1962 season with a 9-1-0 record, a perfect 4-0 Rocky Mountain faculty athletic conference record, and the championship and a 23-20 victory over Northern Illinois University in the Mineral Water Bowl at Excelsior Springs, Mo.
