Decatur Yellow Jackets Suffer Fifth Loss In A Row By Columbia City
By Pete Reynolds The Columbia City Eagles ran their unbeaten record to six in a row and their Northeastern Indiana conference mark to 4-0 with a 6746 victory over the Decatur Yellow Friday night at the De- • catur gym. For the Jackets, it was their fifth setback in a row after a seasonopening triumph over Adams Central. The Eagles showed too much height and poise for the Decatur lads to handle, although the Jackets kept the game close until midway through the second quarter. Bill McColly’s boys got the jump when Greg Ladd hit from the field after 35 seconds had been played and raised false hopes in the hearts of their fans when they piled up an early 10-3 lead after slightly more than three minutes, as Jim Martin and Bob McClure each hit twice from the field to add to Ladd’s opening two-pointer. But the Eagles scored the next seven points, five on free throws, to pull into a 10-10 tie with 27 seconds of the quarter to play. Tom Maddox’s foul toss put the Jackets back in front, but Keith Doudt hit from underneath for a 12-11 Columbia City advantage at the end of the period. The visitors boosted their lead to 11 points at 29-18, but a late Jacket flurry cut the Columbia City bulge to seven points, 32-25, at the half.
