FIREMEN’S AUXILIARY HAS CHRISTMAS PARTY The Decatur Firemen's auxiliary held their annual Christmas party, recently, with a supper at the Parkway restaurant in Berne. There were ten members present. After enjoying dinner, the group went to the home of the president, Mrs. Maurice Colchin, where games were played and white eia> phant gifts were given as prizes to the winners. The past president, Mrs. Pauline Fisher, was then presented with a lovely gift in recognition of her services for the past few years. A Christmas gift-exchange was held at the close of the party. CHRISTMAS DINNER FOR SO CHA REA The members of the So Cha Rea and one guest were entertained with a delicious three-course dinner in the American Legion home recently The table was laid with white linens and beautifully decorated. In the center of the table was an unusual wrought iron Christmas tree lighted with colored candles and set in holly. Holly was also used as a decoration down the center of the table. The place cards were red, green and silver bells, beside favors of beautifully decorated cakes of soap and individual glitter-laden boxes of matches. The home was decorated with a lighted Christmas tree and smaller tables throughout the rooms were also decorated in keeping with the Christmas season. After dinner, members and guest, Mrs. Harry King, enjoyed bridge. Prizes were won by Mrs. Clyde Butler, Mrs. Vincent Bormann, Mrs. Richard Ehinger, Mrs. Al Scheiner and Miss Virginia Laurent. Mrs. Dee Fryback won the door prize. Mrs. Richard Deininger will be hostess for the January meeting. WESLEY CLASS HOLDS CHRISTMAS DINNER The Wesley class of the Methodist church held their annual Christ mas dinnep Sunday at 12 noon in the church parsonage. A delicious turkey dinner was served at a large table decorated with appropriate Christmas decorations. The dinner was prepared and served by the committee to 40 members and five guests. Following the dinner, several Christmas hymns were sung by the members. Lawrence Ehrsam, the class president, conducted the business meeting. The secretary-treas-urer’s report was heard at this time. An election of officers was held with the following results: president, Mrs. Lloyd Ahr; vice president, Mrs. Raymond Walters; secretary- treasurer, Mrs. Harold Gay. At the close of the business meeting, a gift exchange was held. Those serving on the committee were the Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Underwood, Mr. and Mrs. Watson Maddox, Mr. and Mrs. Niland Ochsenrider, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Hetrick, Mr. and Mrs. Lohnas Mclntosh, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lewton, Mrs. Nila Neil and Mr. and Mrs. Orval Baughman. EVERREADY CLASS HAS CHRISTMAS MEETING The Everready Sunday school class of the Methodist church met recently in the home of Mrs. W. P. Robinson for their Christmas meeting Devotions were given by Mrs. Hubert Zerkel, Sr., who used as her theme, “Faith, hope, obedience and love.” Mrs. Asa,Pollock sang, “Silent Night.” "Christmas Cheer” and “God Does not Fail” were read by Mrs. Delton Passwater. Before the Rev.A. C. Underwood closed the devotions with prayer, Mrs. Asa Pollock sang, “An English Melody,” and a French carol. A gift exchange was enjoyed by all. from tables beautifully decorated in keeping with the Christmas season. Hostesses who served were Mrs. W. P, Robinson, Mrs. Frank Crist, Mrs. Forest Elzey, Mrs. N. A. Bixler, Mrs. Fred Hancher, Mrs. Henry Heller, and Mrs. Frank Wells. Guests were Mrs. Harry Brown, Mrs. Chalmer Sheets, Mrs. Hazel Davies and the Rew. and Mrs. A. C. Uflderwood. DELTA KAPPA GAMMA HAS LUNCHEON The Alpha Pi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, which comprises Adams, Blackford, and Wells counties, met for a 12:30 luncheon at the Zion United Church of Christ Saturday. Miss Lucile Beavers, teacher in the Adams Central school, presented a very interesting program on famous women leaders of the world. She showed slides of famous women leaders and conducted an interesting contest. Prizes were won by Miss Mary Rice and Mrs. Agnes Shoemaker. During her very informative program, Miss Beavers stressed, “This generation of Americans has a rendezvous with destiny.” Mrs. Agnes Shoemaker led the group in singing Christmas carols; after which, Mrs. Russell E. Owens, president, conducted the business meeting. The committee members in charge of the meeting were Mrs. Vera Harris, general chairman; Miss Lucile Beavers, program chairman; Mrs. Vera Owens, Mrs. Leona Feasel, Mrs. Dorothy Eichenauer and Mrs. Evelyn Detter. The next meeting will be March 8, at the Lancaster Central school in Wells county. This meeting will be guest night with Future Teachers as guests. MAGLEY WOMEN’S GUILD HAS DECEMBER MEETING The December meeting of the Magley Women’s guild was opened with a piano and organ duet by the Rev. and Mrs. Settlage, followed with the entire group singing, “Joy to the World.” Mrs. Raymond Kolter read the scripture and Mrs. Harold Scherry led the responsive reading. Miss Kathleen Worthman and Miss Karen Scherry sang a duet of, "Away in the Manger.” The group enjoyed a film, entitled, “The Friendly Beasts,” and Mrs. Leo Sheets sang, “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” A second film was shown about “The Christmas Deer.” After which, the special offering was received. The entire group joined in a very impressive candlelight which was closed with prayer by the Rev. Settlage. The meeting was closed with a vocal trio by Mrs. Raymond Kolter, Mrs. Harold Scherry and Mrs. James Meyers. ■* The Tri Kappa Christmas party will be held in the home of Mrs. Dorothy Schnepf Tuesday with a dessert at 7:30 p.m. There will be a 50-cent gift exchange. The Salem. Methodist WSCS will meet at the church Thursday at 11 a.m. for potluck dinner. Husbands are invited. A 50-cent gift exchange will be held. The Women of the Moose will have formal* enrollment Thursday. The social service chairman will be in charge of the chapter night program. Executive meeting, 7:30 and enrollment, 8 p.m. The Pleasant Mills Methodist WSCS will meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Beonit Johnson. All members are urged to attend and bring a homemade gift for exchange. The Preble Sunny circle club will have their December meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Preble Gardens. Chapter of- 1 fleers present were state depart- ( ment adjutant and past command- < er, William Garrett, of Muncie; ‘ sergeant at arms, Hershel Crawford, of Indianapolis, and Edward Dwale from South Bend. The auxiliary donated $5 to the Good Fellows and $5 to buy a TB bond. Talks were given by William Garrett and Hershal Crawford. Commander Lydie Deval also gave a talk on nospital worK. Refreshments were served by Veronia Venis, Dorothy Bailer, Anne Dague and Chrystal Hook. Coffee was served by Bertha Kramer and Adah Wildy. Lucille Boodle received the door prize. The next auxiliary business meeting will be January 14. y Mrs. Alton Corson of No. 6 Homestead will be hostess to the Profit and Pleasure home demonstration club at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Each member is to bring a covered dish and table service. The Phoebe Bible class of the United Church of Christ will meet Thursday evening at 7:45 o’clock. There will be a 50-cent gift exchange and the cookie project. The Knigths of Columbus auxiliary will hold a potluck supper in the K. of C. hall Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., with husbands or friends as special guests. Everyone should bring a 75-cent gift and also a covered dish. The officers will act as hostesses and furnish the meat, rolls and coffee. After <the supper the regular monthly card party will be held, starting at 8 o’clock. The Queen of Angels study club will meet Thursday at 8 p.m. with Miss Rosemary Gase. Miss Elizabeth Peterson will hostess to the Shakespeare club Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Mt. Pleasant W. S. C. S. will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the home of Mrs. Brice Sheets. Sales Gain Expected First Three Months WASHINGTON (UPI) — Manufacturers expect a gain of about SSOO million in sales in t h e first three months of next year, the Commerce Department reported Sunday night. The department based its estimates on a survey made last month. Seek Body Os Man Near New Albany NEW ALBANY, Ind. (UPI) — j Rescue units of the U.S. Coast | Guard searched in vain Sunday | for a New Albany man who tumbled into the icy Ohio River from a barge near here Saturday morning. The missing man was identified as Russel Nolan, 32, an employe of the R. W. Greene Co. which owned the barge. The cause of the fall could not be determined. — i «—• * Local Man Charged , Over Gun Incident Manuel Mireles, 41-year-old resident of 727 N. Eleventh St., is being held in the Adams county tail on three misdemeanor charges, involving an episode with a gun Saturday in Decatur. Mireles 1 was arraigned in the Adams circuit court- this morning on charges of drawing, aiming, and carrying a weapon. The charges are three separate counts, and all misdemeanors. The local man was apprehended Saturday afternoon by the city police after an affidavit had been signed by Dionesi Sema of Middlebury, 0., who was threatened with a small pistol by Mireles. Mireles explained to Jildge Myles F. Parrish this morning that he has already secured the services of an attorney, and he is expected to enter a plea within the next few days. The incident occurred at a local tavern, when Mireles apparently became mad at Serna, and bis brother, Robert Serna of Decatur. He threatened them with the pistol, but it was taken away from him. He later returned with a shotgun and again threatened the two men. Helpful Tool A small magnet kept in the sewing machine drawer will be a big help in finding the lost needle on the floor.
