Ron Thieme Is Mentioned On All-State Squad Ron Thieme, senior fullback for Decatur high school this past fall, was given honorable mention on the United Press International allstate football team, announced this morning. Rushing yardage leader for the Yellow Jacket eleven, Thieme received honorable mention along with several other area players on the UPI all-state squad. Overlooked in the all-conference balloting, the 175-pound senior becomes only the third player in the history of the school to receive recognition on a wire service allstate team. Third From Decatur Kenny Grant, a fullback, received mention on the 1949 all-state squad, while Larry Moses, a halfback, also was given recognition, on the 1958 team. Thieme is the son of Mr. and

Mrs. Edgar Thieme of route 2, Monroeville, Union township residents. One of the leading ground gainers in the conference and the area during the past season, Thieme piled up an outstanding rushing total of M 3 yards in 133 carries in nine games. Averaging 6.3 yards each time he carried the ball, the bruising fullback scored three touchdowns for coach Bob Worthman's Yellow Jackets. He averaged an amazing 94 yards a game rushing over the season’s schedule. / One-Game High Three times during the year Thieme rushed for over 100 total yards in a single contest, his highest one-game total being 179 yards in the Kendallville game. He piled up 113 yards rushing against Auburn, and 112 yards against the Concordia Cadets, conference champions. Thieme also reeled off the longest run of the season for Decatur, an 81-yard scamper against Kendallville, and recorded the longest scoring run of the season, a 21yard scoring romp, also in the Kendallville contest. The senior was chosen co-most valuable player, along with senior Dave Gay, by the Decatur high school Booster club at the end of the season.

Berne Wallops Hartford Last Night, 75-52 The Berne Bears romped to to their second straight easy victory of the young season Tuesday night, whipping the Hartford Gorillas, 75-52, at the Berne gym. It was Berne’s second loss without a defeat, Hartford's record is now three wins and two losses. The Bears built up a nine-point bulge, 25-16, at the first quarter r increased their lead to 41-28 at the half and 58-36 at the third period. Jerry Fosnaugh and Erv Inniger paced the Berne victory, Fosnaugh with 19 points and Inniger with 18. Ron Habegger topped the Gorillas and all scorers with 26 points, and Jerry Alberson added 11 for Hartford. Adams Central Scores Initial Season Victory The Adams Central Greyhounds chalked up their first victory of the season Tuesday night after losing their first two starts, edging the Lancaster Central Bobcats, 4038, at the Adams Central gym. The low-scoring game was close a scant one-point lead, 13-12, at the all the way. The Greyhounds held end of the first quarter, but the teams were tied at the half, 22-22, and at the third period, 26-26. The Greyhounds had only one player in double figures, Ed Hirschy counting 10 points. Don Egley was next in line with nine. Biddle tallied 12 points and Ormsby 11 for the Bobcats. The Greyhounds had a miserable shooting night, hitting only 14 field goals in 81 shots, while Lancaster hit 14 of 46. Decafur Freshmen * Defeated By Leo The Decatur high school freshman team dropped its second game of the season Monday at Leo, losing a 50-44 decision to the Lions freshmen. Decatur jumped into a 15-10 lead at the end of the first period, but Leo regained the lead and held a slight 23-22 margin at the half. The Lions built their margin to 39-33

Pirates, Red Sox Make Player Trade PITTSBURGH (UPD — The Pittsburgh rtrates today traded first baseman Dick Stuart and relief pitcher Jack Lamabe to t h e Boston Red Sox for pitcher Don Schwall and catcher Jim Pagliaroni in the first big deal of the inter-league trading period. Private General Manager Joe Brown announced the trade, the second in three days for his club. On Monday he obtained pitcher Don Cardwell and shortstop Julio Gotay from the St. Louis Cardinals for shortstop Dick Groat and relief pitcher Diomedes Olivio.
