carrying rocket launchers, generators and other equipment lashed unde olive drab tarpaulins. Big trucks hustled up and down the overseas highway, some of them marked “explosives.” Armed guards accompanied the trucks. More convoys were due during the night. In this island city, historically a Navy man’s town, Army jeeps now were commonplace. But few of the Army, Navy and Marine troops jamming into the keys were seen in town, but an occasional GI waited for a lift at a pickup station.
Security restrictions were tight and authorities had nothing to say about the nature of the buildup, particularly after the call from the White House Wednesday for voluntary cooperation. But it seemed from the convoys rolling in, that the Army’s mission here was mainly defense. Thousands of Marines were flown in earlier in the week. The Army made arrangements Thursday to take over the Casa Marina Hotel on the water’s edge near downtown Key West, once a lush tourist resort that has been closed in recent months. Owner Sam Hyman said he had leased the 167-room hotel to the Army for one year, with a 30-day cancellation clause. The hotel was used by the Navy during World War 11. Spinner Hub Cap Stolen From Auto Larry Andrews, 946 N. Eleventh St., reported a theft of a spinner hub cab from his car to the city police at 8:50 p.m. Thursday. Andrews explained the theft occurred sometime after midnight Wednesday, while the auto was parked at his home. The hub cap was valued at $lO. Car Damaged Only Slightly Thursday A car driven by Raymond Velez, 29, Fort Wayne, suffered an estimated $35 damages when struck by a truck at 10:20 a.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Adams St. | The truck driven by Chauncey A. Sheets, 61, route 2, Decatur, had stopped for a stop sign, heading west, and Sheets backed up the vehicle to let another truck have more room in which to make a turn onto Adams street. As Sheets backed his vehicle, he struck the front of the Velez auto. The truck was not damaged. Bayh Again Lashes At Capehart Record COLUMBUS. Ind. (UPD—Democratic senatorial nominee Birch E. Bayh Jr. turned his attention again Thursday night to the voting record of his opponent. Sen. Homer E. Capehart, R-Ind. He told a Democratic rally here that “only one other senator was absent more" than Capehart during the last session of Congress. He said Capehart missed a total of 132 of 227 roll call votes during the session. “In this space age, our state can no longer afford a part-time senator,” Bayh said. Speaking to a Bedford civic club earlier Thursday, Bayh praised President Kennedy for “meeting the challenge of the cold war on many fronts. He is waging the battle for peace and for the minds of men just as vigorously as he wages the cpld wfir.** Bayh said that the Cuban crisis “still remains just one stage in the cold war.” He said he believes the cold war “will be won off the battlefield in the hearts and minds of the people around the world.” He said that Capehart “has shown no grasp for winning the uncommitted peoples of the world ...” Holiness Association To Meet Here Sunday The Adams county holiness association will hold its October meeting Sunday, it was announced today by president Rev. When Christ calls, follow Him. Salvation is the most essential need of mankind. ’ Jesus Christ died upon Calvary to redeem sinners from the curse of sin. Those who seek Him with ‘ all their hearts will find Him to the joy of their souls, but those ■ who reject Him will be lost eternally. : Some years ago a ship, the Hern--1 don, was disabled in the Indian Ocean. A passing vessel stood by, and from time to time asked if they could take off the crew and the passengers. Hie weather was calm, and the captain of the good ship Herndon I repeatedly answered, “Not yet.” Night came on, and with it a storm i which rendered further communi- I cation impossible. When dawn broke, the only sign of the Herndon was a few pices of wreckage; she had gone down with all on board. The captain had put off :

the call for help too long. Strange to say, there are a number of people who keep putting off their salvation from day to day, and year to year, thinking that God will continue to prolong their opportunities. They seem to forget that the Bible says that “God’s Spirit will not always strive with man.” Turn to God at once. It is not too late to pray, "for now is the accepted time, and now is the day of salvation.” Oh, come to the merciful Saviour who calls you, Oh, come to the Lord who forgives and forgets; Though dark be the future on earth that befalls you, A bright home awaits where the sun never sets.” THIS WEEK’S BIBLE VERSE "For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek; for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans — 10:12, 13.
