Zeke Young Speaker For Booster Club's Banquet

Cecil (Zeke) Young, former head coach at Auburn high school, and one of the most widely-known mentors in the state of Indiana,' will be the main speaker at the annual Decatur high school Booster club banquet to be held Tuesday, November 6, it was announced this morning by club president, James Cowens. The banquet is to begin at 6:30 p.m., and will be held at the Decatur Youth and Community Center. One of the major sporting banquets in Decatur each year, the banquet is scheduled to be held the evening of the fall election, which worked out very well in past years. Cowens explained that persons interested in the election are “uptown” that evening anyway, and the banquet will conclude in plenty of time before the first return begin coming in. , One of the most successful and popular coaches in the state while at Auburn, Young should prove an interesting and dynamic speaker for the annual affair. / Began in 1924 Coming to Auburn in the fall of 1924 to teach physical education in all city schools and coach baseball, basketball and track in the Auburn high school, it took Young only two years to institute football in Auburn. His Red Devil gridiron teams piled up a tremendous record, winning 142 times as against only 63 losses and 14 ties. Young coached Northeastern Indiana conference football championship teams in 1940, 41, 44 , 46, 47 , 48, 49 , 50 and 1954 and co-champions in 1930 and 1951. His Auburn football teams were undefeated in 1951 1946, 1947 and 1954. His outstanding achievement Public SKATING THURS., - SAT., C UN. 7:3Q P, M. — 10:39 i*. M. SUNDAY AFTERNOON 1:30 P. M. — 4:30 P. Wive’s Tickets In making the announcement, Cowens explained that tickets for the wives of Booster club members may be purchased at Holthouse-on-the-Highway at $2 and that there will be no tickets on sale at the door.
