striCkler-walther WEDDING ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Strickler, route three, Decatur announce the marriage of their daughter, Cassandra Kay to John W. Walther, Jr. Walther is the son of Mrs.> Ralph Smith of West Milton, 0., and John W. Walther, Sr., Dayton, The ceremony took place the evening of June 18 in the St. John Lutheran church, with the Rev. Edwin A. H. Jacobs officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoffman attended the couple. Miss Strickler operates Cassandra’s House of Style and Walther is a senior at Washington-Jeffer-son, Washington Pa. 39ERS ENJOY CARRY-IN DINNER The 39ers met at the Decatur Youth and Community Center Tuesday evening for their carry-in dinner meeting. Twenty-seven members were present. Six new members were annuonced and introduced. Following the dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Bumgerdner recited several poems. Mrs. Albert Davison lead the group in a sing-a-long. During the business meeting, conducted by Mrs. Bumgerdner, bills were allowed and secretary’s report given. Mrs. Mabel Schmitt showed slides of her trip to the Hawaiian Islands. Everyone enjoyed the scenery and interesting description of the lovely things she saw in the fiftieth state. The next meeting will be held November 6 at 12 noon. _MRB. SUTTLES HOSTESS iX TO SHAKESPEARE CLUB Mrs. Arthur Suttles, Sr., was hostess to the ladies of the Shakespeare club Wednesday. paper on “Treasury of American Folklore.” It was taken from “American Folklore,’ a book published by the editors of Life magazine. The group then listened to several recorded folk tunes. Delicious candies were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be with Mrs. John Tyndall, Mrs. Elbert Smith will be the leader. DECATUR GARDEN CLUB MEETS TUESDAY Tuesday afternoon, the Decatur Garden club met in the home of Mrs. Adolph Kolter. Mrs. Martin Zimmerman, club president, was in charge of the business meeting. She announced that the annual meeting of the northeast district Garden clubs will be held at the First EUB church In Fort Wayne, November 1. Reservations are to be in by October 25. Club members wishing to attend should call Mrs. Zimmerman . Mrs. N. A. Bixler, leader for the. afternoon, gave a very interesting paper on autumn leaves. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Bixler, served lovely refreshments to the eighteen members present. DELTA THETA TAU SESSION TUESDAY The Delta Theta Tau sorority held its business and founder.’s day ritual at the home of Mrs. Robert Krueckeberg, Bollman street, Tuesday evening. Mrs. Jerry Bixler, president, conducted the opening ceremonies. Mrs. John McConaha will be the delegrate to the province convention to,be held November 1 through 4 at the La Fountaine hotel in Huntington. A ticket to the community concerts will be presented to the public and Catholic high schools. The hostess served delicious cookies and coffee. Founder’s day ritual, which is observed by over 8,000 active members of Delta Theta Tau sororities simultaneously, was conducted by Rosemary Spangler at 10:30. November 6, an inspection by the national president, Edna Fournier, will precede the dinner. Plans for this will be announced later. Every member must be present and any alumni or member-at-large must make reservations with Jo Neireiter by November 3; her telephone number is 3-2525. ROSARY SOCIETY HOLDS MONTHLY SESSION Members of the Rosary society recently held their monthly meeting at K. of C. hall. Prayer opened the meeting by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Simeon Schmitt. It was voted to give a donation to the Community Fund and also to the Girl Scouts who are sponsored by the Rosary society. Each member was asked to bring a Christmas gift, holiday-wrapped, appropriate for a mental patient. The meeting was

closed with prayer. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Schmitt then introduced two Sisters of the Precious Blood from Maria Stein. They showed colored slides of. their convent, the relic chafiel and a tour of the grounds. Sister Ella narrated. A dainty luncheon was served by Mary Heiman and her committee. VISITATION IS HELD SUNDAY EVENING A Visitation by Father Ulric Buening. O. F. M. Cap., from Wilwaukee was held for all Third Order Tertiaries Sunday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Father Ulric conducted profession ceremony for Mrs. Christine Hackman and Miss Helen Kinney, followed by benediction. All then retired to social rooms where Father Ulric gave an interesting talk on the Franciscan way of life, taught by St. Francis of Assisi. A light luncheon was served by Mrs. Margaret Braun, Mrs. Victoria Heiman, Mrs, Mary Kintz and August Heiman. MERRIER MONDAYS CLUB HAS SKATING PARTY The families and friends of the Merrier Mondays home demonstration club ehjoyed a skating party recently. The evening was enjoyed by all. Those in charge of the event were Mrs. Darrel Arnold and Mrs. Jim Arnold. The next meeting will be November 12 in the l&M building, Decatur. MEETING OF HEIDELBERG CLASS FOR OCTOBER The Heidelberg Calss members of the Zion United Church of Christ met recently for their October meeting. The Rev. William C. Feller opened the meeting with prayer, followed by the singing of two hymns. Mrs. Keneth Nyffeler gave the devotions and Mrs. Joe Rash and son. Tommy, favored the class with a piano duet. It was decided to buy a kneeling shepherd for the nativity set and also to make a contribution to the fund for the piano in the county home. The next meeting will be a Christmas party, December 11. The meeting was closed by the praying of the Lord’s Prayer. There will be a called meeting of the Flo-Kan Sunshine girls immediately after school Monday in the home of Mrs. Wayne Barber. There will be a called meeting for the associate and active chapters of Tri Kappa Tuesday, October 23, 7:45 p.m .in the C. L. of C. hall. The Jolly Housewives home demonstration club will meet in the I & M building, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The special project for the evening is a thank offering. Eta Tau Sigma sorority will meet with Mrs. Dick Arnold, Tuesday at 8 p.m.

MEETING FOR HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB The Decatur Home Demonstration club met at the C. L. of C. hall Wednesday. Mrs. Frank Bohnke, president, presided. Mrs. Walter Lister gave the history of the song of the month, “Old Folks at Home,” and led the group in singing it. Twenty-three members answered roll call. Mrs. Bohnke gave the devotions, led in prayer and read the poem* “I Will do More.” November 2, Mrs. Buckan, of Fort Wayne, will give a lesson on Christmas decorations that can be made. This meeting will be at 1:30 p. m. at the Community Center. Mrs. Ralph E. Roop gave the lesson—“be wise when you buy a dress. A well-fitted dress is not only comfortable, but helps to give a smart appearance and good service. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve sizes of garments. A style of dress is not good unless it looks good on you. There is no set rule on the proper length of a dress. The dress should be below the knee at a length that looks good on you.” Mrs. Frank Fisher gave the report of the nominating committee. Officers for the coming year are, president, Mrs. Ralph E. Roop; vice president, Mrs. Woodson Ogg; secretary, Mrs. Frank Crist: treasurer, Mrs. Clarence Smitley; first leaders, Mrs. Carl Barnett and Mrs. Grover Levy; alternate leaders, Mrs. J. E. Tne meeting was then turned over to Baumgartner, who explained that the October and November PTA meetings would be devoted to the topic, “Communications between home and school.” Mrs. Mitchell spoke for the elementary teachers and Hindenlang for the high school on: 1. Statement of problems; 2. Statement of hypothesis. A study group within the PTA is being formed and the first meeting will be held at the school, Monday, October 22, 7 p.m. The meet-, ing was adjourned and refreshments served by the committee, Mrs. Eugene Hitchcock, Mrs. Donald Bollenbacher, Mrs. Tom Sheehan, Mrs. Gerald McCullough and Miss Alta Kraft. Mrs. Miriam McDonald, who was recently transferred from the Adams county memorial hospital to Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne for major surgery, is reported getting along fine. Her room number is 344. St. Anne’s study club meeting will be cancelled for the month of October because of illness. Locals Floyd Casselman, of Hoquiam, Wash., 110 miles west of Seattle on the Pacific coast, is visiting in Adams county with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ammi Miller. Casselman left the Adams county-Monroeville area about 43 years ago, and has only been back about six times for visits. He is now retired. Janet Rambo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rambo of 404 South Fifth Street, is celebrating her 16th birthday today. Her 16th birthday is being celebrated today by Miss Sharon Sutton. She is die daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sutton, 407 North Second street, and is a sophomore at Decatur Catholic high school.
