Dramatic new styling plus increased power and performance highlight the changes in the 1963 Mercury Monterey. The unique, reverse slope, rear window which goes up and down, virtually eliminates visibility problems caused by ice, snow, rain or frost. The 390 Marauder V-8 engine now becomes standard, replacing a 223 six-cylinder engine and 292 V-8 which are no longer available on the Monterey. A total of eleven models—including the four-door custom shown above — are offered in the Monterey, Monterey Custom and S-55 bucket seat series.
You, Your Child And The School
By DAVID NYDICK UPI Education Specialist Parents and students sometimes face difficult choices regarding sports and club activities. Generally speaking, most services available for children in school appear valuable for their growth and dev lopment. Much has re ently been said about physical fitness. Can a child be on a school Iteam and still maintain academic success? He should be able to do so. Games and practice sessions are arranged to avoid conflicts with tests and studies- Engaging in sports means the student must plan his time carefully. Parents often deny children the
opportunity to participate in sports because of apprehension over hysical dpanger. This apprehension is reasonably only if the program is not administered properly. Correct training, proper equipment, adequate supervision, and equal matching of opponents will minimize any danger. If appropriate precautions are taken, the values of the program outweigh any dangers. The decision is yours, but remember, balance the advantages against any disadvantages. Clubs concentrating on dramatics, journalism, chess, language, etc. permit participation in specific areas of interest. They com-
plete a balanced school organization. Depending upon particular needs of the local school and community, these activities can be held within the schoolday or after school hours (afternoon or evening). Extra curricular programs are an important part of total education. A student’s growth and development demands more than academic learning. His personality and body heed activity to help him become a well rounded adult The expansion of a child’s interests through proper direction and supervision is obviously valuable to his development. Question:My daughter is having difficulty with her studies. She has failed two courses. I feel she does not spend enough time with her homewoi’k. She is a member of the school orchestra and dramatic society. Outside of school violin and dancing lessons take up a good deal of time. How can I correct this problem? Answer: Your first step must be further investigation to find

Although much time is taken up with these activities, they are not necessarily the basis of her problems I would discuss the academic problem with her teachers and guidance counsellor. The next step is an avaluation with your daughter. Her activities are, obviously, closely related and follow her interests. A well organized plan, similar to an appointment book, will help in making a decision. Perhaps, dropping one activity or a reorganization of time may correct the total problem. It is well to be cautious about eliminating activities in which your daughter shows success.
