Fair Weather Seen For Memorial Day By United Press International Indiana weathered a series of tornado and severe storm forecasts both days of the weekend, and the concensus was that Hoosiers got off lucky. Severe storm forecasts calling for locally damaging winds were ■ issued Saturday and Sunday for wide areas of the state. Some areas got rather violent storms, but most of the turbulence remained above the ground and moderate rainfall and a little wind and hail was the chief end result. Considering how ominous were the threats and how dark the skies grew, it was a wonder nothing worse happened. There were a few scattered reports of funnel clouds seen in the air. But none apparently touched earth. At least two fatalities in the state had weather connections. At Evansville, Cornelius Hauschilt, 52, Evansville, was electrocuted when he flicked the switch, of a light in his garage whilei standing barefoot in a puddle of [ water left from a downpour Saturday night. Arthur Stenzel, 58, Fairhope, Ala., was killed Sunday when his car swerved out of control on a U.S. 41 curve near Rockville during a rainstorm. Lightning caused considerable damage around the state. One bolt struck the radio transmitter of. the Charlestown post of Indiana! State Police and put it out of operation for a short time. Wind felled a few power lines and trees. Temperatures Sunday were the lowest in more than two weeks. ■ Highs ranged from 60 at South Bend to 76 at Evansville. Overnight lows this morning ranged from 49 at South Bend to 62 at Evansville. , Highs today will range from 75 to the low 80s, lows tonight in the 60s and highs Tuesday from near 80 to the mid 80s. and thunderstorms were expected to continue today through TuesThe outlook for Wednesday was fair and warmer, a bright prospect for about 4% million Hoosiers who are looking forward to the warm season’s first holiday for Memorial Day picnics and outings.
