* vM The “Aurora T’ space craft which carried Navy Lt Cdr. Malcolm Scott Carpenter on the threeorbit flight was retrieved at sea by the destroyer USS John R. Pierce- The astronaut, first sighted afloat after the earth-orbiting flight by a Navy patrol aircraft, was picked from the Atlantic by a Navy helicopter which took him to the aircraft carrier US& Intrepid. He later was flown to Grand I Turk Island in the Bahamas.

Taverns To Close Earlier Wednesday Local taverns, along with others throughout the state, will dose one earlier Tuesday night, or Wednesday morning. State excise police personally visited the Decatur taverns Sat- : urday night to advise them of enforecement of the 1 a.m. (EST) closing time on Memorial, as well as Christmas, New Year’s and election days, instead of the usual 2 a.m. closing hour. Joe A. Harris, chairman of the Indiana alcoholic beverage commission, instructed all excise state , police to be on the lookout for . and to crack down on all violators i of the state’s alcholic beverage closing-hour law on Memorial Day. Heller of Preble, Ind., is serving with Amphibious construction battalion Two, aboard th* tank landing ship USS York County, Which departed its home port of Norfolk, Va., on May 14, for a five-month deployment with the sixth fleet in the mediterranean.
