Deep Waler Port Is Needed By Indiana BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (UPD— Indiana Republicans and Democrats are united in the belief that the state needs a deep water port on Lake Michigan, Rep. William G. Bray, R-Ind., said Saturday at a Great Issues forum at Indiana University. “The state of Indiana long ago saved the dunes without any help from the state of Illinois or the federal government," he said in a reference to Sen. Paul Douglas, j D-111., to the port. Douglas, claiming the port ’would destroy the dunes, has inI troduced legislation for a 9,000 (acre Indiana National Dunes Park i which would cover the proposed site of the port at Burns Ditch. Indiana’s congressional delegation is backing alternate legislation calling for a smaller park which would exclude the Burns Ditch area and permit the port. Discussing the philosophies of the two major political parties, Bray said Democrats believed "our lives should be planned for the strongest possible rights for I the strngest possible rights for the individual.”

The seizure of the town Sunday by pro-Communist Laotian rebels, possibly aided by Chinese Communist troops, appeared to finish the year-old cease-fire in Laos and open the possibility of a resumption of full-scale fighting. Casualty figures were not available in the confusion of the proWestern royal forces’ retreat, but all 12 U.S. military advisers in the town were evacuated safely by helicopter. They said the 5,000; royal soldiers, who may have been outnumbered nearly two to one, "put up a good fight.” 1 (Iq Washington, the United States Sunday night charged the rebels With a "violation of the cease-fire.” State Department officials said they understood Nam Tha fell shortly after a heavy artillery attack that caused the withdrawal of seven or eight government battalions. (It was understood that high U.S. officials in Laos had warned Royal Defense Minister Gen. Pboumi Nosavan that his military buildup and the extension of his forces in the Nam Tha area risked provoking a rebel attack.) The Nam Tha garrison retreated over jungle trails without air or land transportation, and it was feared it would have to leave most of its wounded behind on the battlefield, which is only two
