A Cultural Lift One of the brightest spots in Decatur's cultural life is the civic music program, which has improved significantly in the past few years, thanks to the dedication of local workers, and the vast improvement in the national organization which schedules the programs. This week more than 100 persons are taking part in the annual membership drive. This drive is open until Saturday night, period. You cannot buy a ticket after that time. The programs will depend entirely on how many people sign up. Much better programs will be obtained if more people buy tickets. Many local industries and businesses are buying tickets, and lending them to workers who want to attend one particular concert, but cannot afford a $7.50 series ticket. The Indianapolis symphony orchestra, a highlight of the program each year, has already been scheduled. But the rest of the programs will depend on the number of memberships sold. Mrs. Roy Kalver heads the entire program, and Mrs. J. Clark Mayclin heads the drive in Decatur. AU new members who sign up now will be able to attend the bonus concert this year, Stan Freeman on April 12. Those who have never attended the programs are missing a fine opportunity for relaxation, enjoyment, and a fine social evening right here in Decatur. The programs are of such quality that few large cities have any better. A city is often measured by the programs that its citizens support. No finer recommendation can be given for Decatur than its excellent civic music program. If you take part, you help strengthen this important aspect of Adams county’s civic life. ratfier Jesus of Calvary. Jesus of Nazareth was the baby she had held in her arms, the child in the doorway, the boy who sat across the table. She knew, of course, that the soiled, tormented man on the cross was her boy. He had come to her shrouded in mysteiy. She had held him in her heart and in her body. She had believed him to be God. Now He was in other arms. AU around her was hatred and rejection for Him. Unable to touch or relieve
Him, within her heart she held Him. With absolute faith and trust, bending anguish to her will, she looked up at Him. She accepted Him just as He was. On Calvary, one heart adored the King. Mary wanted to be on Calvary with her Son. Christ wanted her to be there to have a part in the supreme moment of His life, His sacrifice and perfect act of love for His Father and for mankind. Sometimes we think that God cannot love us, if He asks us to
suffer. Yet Christ’s' love called Mary to Calvary. Her love brought her there. The great moments of our lives are those in which, with love, we offer our wounds to the wounded Christ. Age Dims Hearing BOSTON (UPI) — Women retain perfect hearing better than men, the New England Journal of Medicine reports. Hearing loss, it has been found, goes with age: the older the less keen the hearing.
