Generalities In General Science is on the verge of an amazing new breakthrough — freezing the human body to a state of suspended animation. This process has possibilities of opening a complete new era of surgery and healing. It may be possible to freeze an astronaut, send him through billions of miles of space, and have him arrive countless years later as young as he was the day he left. It is possible that man might be able to adopt the hibernation practices Os animals and live for 1,400 years. It might be advisable for man to learn to “live” for four score and ten before he worries about living any longer. Specialists estimate that before too many years, it will be possible to obtain enough food, in the form of plankton, from the sea to feed every x one on earth. At present, the food can be obtain- ’ > ed, but it tastes something like fine gravel mixed with cod liver oil. As soon as this bountiful supply , of food can be made palatable, it may be possible to use algae and yeast, which multiply themselves 1,000 times a day ,as tools for combating hunger. » ' •. It is estimated that 90 per cent of all the scien'tists who ever lived are alive today. More about medical science has been discovered in the last 20 yars than in all previous history combined. Fifty per cent of all of man’s scientific discoveries have been made since 1950. And, in case anyone is interested, that bright yellow stuff splashing over most of Adams county Friday was good old Indiana sunshine, conspicuous by its long absence, which has been present in ever-decreasing quantities since late 1961. And the smiles on people’s faces are there because people feel good, the world is r still a good place, and man has more to look forward to » on this day than at any other time in history. To those who say “So what” to any or all of the above, we offer our deepest sympathies. Editorial Writer Today John G. Heller

The answer to me rirst question, •’ls there mercy with God? Is there forgiveness for one who has sinned against God again and again?,” comes from the cross as Jesus, the incarnate God, look* down on the motley crowd who had brought him there to be crucified and prays, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” The answer to the second question, “Is death a blank wall or an open door?,” comes from the empty tomb where the risen Christ says to Mary Magdaln, “Go to NOTICK Notice is hereby given that the Board of Public Works & Safety of the City of Decatur, Indiana, will receive sealed blds at the office of the Clerk-Treasurer, until the hour of 7:15 P.M. on th* SOth day of March, 1852, at which hour the bids will be publicly opened and read aloud for the following described equipment: One new and unused engine of adequate else and power <not less than Mt H.P.) to be furnished and installed in the Maxim Fire Truck owned by the City of Decatur, Indiana. my brethren and SOY to them, I am ascending to my lather and your father, to my God and your God." The answer to the third question, “Oan life be lived victoriously?" is there power to me t the frustrate*! of life and to build on bias ted hopes and broken dreams?” comes from the upper room where once defeated and discouraged men came forth with courage, Joy and power that shook the world. To these three questions the Lenten season has come again with a resounding affirmative to say to every man, “Yes, there is mercy with God. Death may be for an open door.
