Continued from Page 7A lead at the 5:35 mark of the period on Dick Canales' pair of free throws and. never trailed thereafter. They held a 10-4 first quarter lead and a 19-12 advantage after a low-scoring first half. The eventual winners doubled their first half score in the third period, tallying 19 points and holding a safe 38-21 margin going into the last quarter. The final game was one of the roughest in sectional play for some time, with tempers on occasion and the officials having difficulty in getting the players cooled off to continue play. Larry Daniels and Bob Shraluka topped the Decatur scoring with 14 and 13 points, respectively, and no Hartford player scored in twin figures. A total ot 18 fouls were called on Hartford and 15 on Decatur. The new champs had ousted their city rivals, the Commodores, in the afternoon, by a 72-61 score in a real tight battle Hartford advanced to the final game for the third year in a row by whipping Geneva, 66-43. eight minutes. After trailing 10-9, the Bears scored 13 consecutive points and held a 34-19 margin at the half. '■ Berne stayed well ahead in the third stanza, and led 48-35 going into the final eight minutes. The Greyhounds began pressing in the final period, and the press bothered Berne. Larry Foreman’s basket with a minute to play cut the margin to 64-60, bv.t Adams Central could get only one more fielder in that final minute. Phil Sprunger led the winners’ scoring with 21 tallies and Rod Schwartz added 18. Foreman paced Adams Central with 19. Berne had defeated the defending champion Decatur Yellow Jackets, 44-43, in the afternoon in overtime, and Adams Central had dumped Hartford, 47-34.
