Yager Building Sold To Boch Brothers I John and Robert Boch purchased the Yager building at auction Wednesday for the sum of $16,000. The building is currently leased by the Gamble store, on second street across from the court house. The sale was handled by the Kent Realty and Auction Co., and the bidding was lively from at least six interested parties. The building, previously owned by the late Leo Yager, is one of the longest in the business district. In addition to the normal length of the building back to the alley, there is another portion east of the alley. This additional part of the building is connected to the main building on the second floor, making the second level a continuous area 24 feet wide and 196 feet in length. — If you have something to sell or trade — use the Democrat Want ads — they get BIG resume.

Admiral McCollum Recalls Warning . WASHINGTON (UPI) — Six days before Pearl Harbor, the the U.S. Navy went to his superiors and warned them: “You can expect war with Japan at any time.” The warning came from Rear Adm. Arthur McCollum, then a commander, who had been born in Japan, spoke the language and knew such top Japanese naval officers as Admiral Yamamoto. McCollum, now 63 and retired, interviewed at his home in Arlington. Va.. recalled today there were clear signs the Japanese were up to something many days before their attack 20 years ago. Foremost in his mind was that special warning he gave the naval high command on Dec. 1, 1941. “We already knew that war was near,” McCollum said. “But secret information coming to us from around the world convinced me more than ever that a Japanese attack was imminent—perhaps only hours away.” The admiral said he thought the attack would be directed against Southeast Asia, with possibly the British being hit first. He told the admirals. They agreed with him, except for one who figured Siberia was more of a prime target for the Japanese. Winter Keeps Hold Over Indiana Today By United Press International Winter kept a fingertip touch on Indiana today and promised to press a little harder, with maybe the coldest weather of the season. But the stiffer grip will be confined largely to colder temperatures and not snow and ice. Although there was a chance of a little snow along the north border today and tonight and a chance of show flurries in the north Saturday, the prospects for the remainder of the state were fair to partly cloudy conditions through Saturday. The mercury crested between 44 at Fort Wayne and 53 at Evansville Wedne sda y, then dropped to the low 30s and upper 20s this morning, including 28 at South Bend and Fort Wayne, 30 at Indianapolis and Terre Haute, 31 at Cincinnati and 32 at Evansville and Louisville. Today will be colder with highs ranging from 30 to 36 north and 34 to 43 south. Lows tonight may range as low as 15 degrees in the far north and 18 in the south, although the temperature forecast had considerable leeway—ls to 24 north and 18 to 26 south. Highs Friday will range from 33 to 45. If you have something to sell or trade — use the Democrat Want ads — they get BIG resuits.
