Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Moore of Berne, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Carolyn Louise, to Nicholas Dean Conrad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Conrad of Decatur. The bride-elect is a graduate of Hartford high school and is employed by the Berne Overall Co., Inc. Her fiance is a graduate of Decatur high school and Journeymen Barber’s International school of trichology, Indianapolis. __ No definite date has been set for the wedding.
ROSE GARDEN CLUB MET WITH MRS. GEORGE SPRAGUE Mrs. Niland Ochsinrider, lesson leader, presented a program on “holiday flower arrangements” to the members of the Rose Garden club as they met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. George Sprague. Mrs, Ochsenrider also displayed sereral arrangements she had made for the occasion. Mrs. Richard Mailand, president, opened the meeting with the club creed and the pledge to the flag. Roll call was answered by twenty ope. members responding with “a ' Chrfstnias gift to make.” Mrs. Mailand gave a very interesting report of the district meeting which was held at Waynedale, November 2. Professor H. L. R. Chapman of Michigan State University was the guest speaker and gave an interesting lecture on perennials and shrubs. Mrs. Mailand algo announced that Mrs. Ralph Henry of Bluffton will be the new district chairman. Mrs. Paul Daniels also gave a report on the workshop which was held at Sears pavilion, November 7. Show” which will be held December 1 at River Lodge, Shoaff Park, Fort Wayne. Thursday, the Rose Garden club will present two flowering crabapple trees to the Southeast at 1:30 p.m. There will be a short program and all members are urged to be present. The club will also take a basket of apples to the county home following the tree presentation. Final plans for “Friendship Day” were made and committees were named. The affair will be held at the I & M social room, Saturday, from 1 to 8 p.m. All Garden clubs from this area will be guests. The public is also invited. Mrs. Mel Kreps, entertainment chairman, conducted a contest and prizes were won by Mrs. Levy and Mrs. Haley. Delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Sprague, assisted by Mrs. Frank Crist. JAMES MCCULLOUGH MARKS FIRST BIRTHDAY SUNDAY Master James Barry McCullough. celebrating his first birthday, was honored with a birthday dinner Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed McCullough. The guests sang “Happy Birthday" to Jimmy as he was presented his beautiful birthday cake, after which he received ma n y lovely gifts. The entertaining room was decorated with many colored balloons. Those present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Zelt, Mr. and Mrs. Ben McCullough, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Kidd, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cottrell, Mr. and Mrs. Ed McCullough and Dennis and Timmy McCullough. VFW LADIES AUXILIARY MET RECENTLY AT POST Membership chairman, Mrs. Robert Butler, asked all members to assist in the final run for membership at the recent business and

social meeting of the VFW ladiesi auxiliary. “The membership is over 95% now, and the remaining few are requested to pay their dues as soon as possible,” she said. National home chairman, Mrs. Ray Ballard, asked all to remember the national home and continue in its support by buying their Christmas seals. Also, Mrs. Artie Olli ver, president of Fort Wayne 857, spoke to the ladies, complimenting auxiliary 6236 for its projects and progress. It was announced that a goose and chicken supper will be held November 18, with all proceeds going to the veteran’s building fund. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Ray Venis to 19 members and one visitor, and Mrs. Harry Martz was the recipient of the door prize. The next meeting will be November 20. PLANS COMPLETED FOR PAST PRESIDENTS HOLIDAY PARTI Plans were made for the annual Christmas party during the business session of the Past Presidents parley meeting held recently. The holiday party will be a family affair, to be held December 10 at the Legion home. Reservations are required and must be made on or before December 6 with Mrs. A. E. Myers or Mrs. Mabie Liniger. Also, the members will have a $1 gift exchange. The president, Mrs. A. E. Myers, opened the meeting with the group repeating the Lord’s Prayer, after which Mrs. James Baker was welcomed as a new member of the parley. Mrs. Harold Tieman was hostess for the evening. After refreshments were served, games were played and prizes won by Mrs. T. C. Smith, Mrs. Tillman Gehrig, Mrs. Vincent Bormann and Mrs. Dee Fryback. REBEKAH CIRCLE OF TRINITY HAS NOVEMBER MEETING Miss Scherry Bollenbacher played a piano solo, “How Great Thou Art,” to begin the November meeting of the Rebekah circle of the Trinity church held recently at the home of Mrs. Chalmer Bollenbacher. A discussion about the church in the community and what constitutes the church was led by Mrs. Marie Deßolt. Each member then participated in the thank offering program by reading a scripture. Each one then wrote all the things there are to be thankful for and placed them in the “horn of plenty.” The offering was received and the service concluded with prayer. During the business meeting, members were reminded of the carry-in supper at the general meeting, December 1. It was also decided to hold the monthly meeting on the second Thursday of the month. Mrs. Roy Chilcote was welcomed to the circle as a new member. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Chalmer Bollenbacher. - — LOWELL HARPER SPEAKS TO ASSOCIATE TRI KAPPA Lowell Harper spoke to the members of the associate Tri Kappa after their business meeting at the home of Mrs. L. E. Linn Tuesday evening. Harper, who had recently traveled around the world in 30 days, flying 27,000 miles, showed his pictures taken in India, Pakistan and Calcutta concerning the jute market. He reported that the temperature was 105 most of the time. During the business session, conducted by Mrs. Lowell Harper, president. Miss Dorothy Schnepf gave a report of the rummage sale and the minutes were read by Agnes Keller. Members were reminded to take gifts for the mental health Christmas party. Mrs. Mabie Murray was named scholarship chairman. A picture for the library was discussed. Colored slides are available of all the Tri Kappa pictures shown. Mrs. Dan Tyndall gave a detailed report of the past officers convention at Indianapolis recently. Several founders of Tri Kappa 60 years ago are still living. Plans were made for the Christmas party for the active chapter to be held at the American Legion home, December 12. The dinner will feature a smorgasbord. Sunday, November 26, at the St. Mark's Lutheran church basement, Monroeville. Mr. and Mrs. Bower were married November 30, 1911, in the bride’s home. Mrs. Bower is the former Mamie Bailey. A retirto dairy farmer, Bower has resided on their present farm his entire life. Mr. and Mrs. Bower sold dairy products at the Barr street market, Fort Wayne, for 37 years. Many of the people of Fort Wayne were their customers and friends. The couple have four children: Ferris Bower, of Decatur; Virginia of New York City; John, of Crestline, O.; and Mrs. Amstutz (Mabelle Jo) of Lafayette. They also have four grandchildren. A grandson, Johnny Bower, is deceased.

Mrs. James Shack’.ey has been dismissed from the Bluffton Clinic hospital, where she had undergone major surgery recently. Word had been received here of the address of Fred H. Macke. He left Baer Field Sunday, November 5, at 10 I>.m. and arrived safely in France at 7 a.m., November 7. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Macke of route two, Decatur. His wife, and son.
