Colorful Routes To Indiana Sites

INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) - The Indiana Deartment of Commerce and Public Relations today offered nine suggested routes for motorists wanting an uncrowded look at the states brilliant show of autumn leaves. Col. Milton Hale, administrator, noted that while Brown County is the best known ’area for autumn color, other Hoosier counties also have trees with leaves showing their red, yellow and orange hues. "Even Brown County merchants are unhappy with the bumper-to-bumer traffic on weekends,’ he said. "Its so bad there is no place to stop and park. Perhaps later, more parking areas can be arranged.* But Hale said that for the present he would suggest that people who do not like people in their view of multi-colored hills either visit Brown County on a week day, or try touring other counties, He said indications are the south and central Indiana color show will last for two more weekends. Hale prepared suggested routes for the benefit of those who may not be familiar with Indiana roads and might prefer a definite path to follow. Five of the routes begin and end in the Indianapolis area: Indiana 67 to Spencer in Owen County, Indiana 46 to Bloomington in Monroe County, returning by Indiana 37 through Morgan County. i — U.S. 52 to north to Muncie, returning by Indiana 67 through Madison and Hancock Counties.
