Adair Mistaken Rep. E. Ross Adair spoke at the Decatur Youth and Community Center Tuesday night. We wondered why we did not get a release on it Wednesday. After 1 reading an account of the speech in the Berne Witness, we can understand why Mr. Adair would not want anyone with a critical mind to examine his speech. Following the usual Republican line, Adair charged that it is “sad but it tea fact that we get into these war situations under Democratic administrations.” But he failed to mention that we get into these i situations, not because the Democrats want war, but ; because the Democrats do not want to yield up one more inch of the free world to Communism. Eisenhower made surrender after surrender to • Communism — in Indo-Chlna, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, ' Africa, Cuba, etc. v Kennedy said “No!” Kennedy has said that not one more inch of free territory will be given over. If it means war, it means war. But it will bo brought on by the Russians. Sen. Hartke last Sunday told a crowd at Geneva, of a recent talk with the President. The President told him this — if the Russians do not believe that we are serious, it can result in war. Sen. Hartke pointed out that if we are to hold the line against the Communists, nothing else is possible, except to stand fast, and tell them not to advance one more inch. If we give up an inch, they want the next mile. Certainly Eisenhower’s experience indicates that. Os course Eisenhower’s administration was peaceful. Why should Khrushchev go to war when they could force India, Burma, Indonesia, then the Middle Eastern Moslem countries, and then the new African countries, into neutralism or pro-Commu-tt ism? This was done under Eisenhower, who abandoned the Truman doctrine. We have two choices. Peace under Communist domination, or our own way of life, and having to fight for it. Which do you want? President Kennedy wants us to stand fast in Berlin. It will take sacrifices, ; and the calling of many of us back into service. But the only alternative is increasing Communist domina- • tion, the end of corporate business, the triumph of tyranny over representative Democracy. If Mr. Adair wants peace and surrender to . Communism then he is following the right course. His course may elect a few Republicans, including himself, but it will eventually lead to the death of the United States and our way of life, a high price for “peace.” We had Mr. Adair’s “peace" at Munich, in the 1930’5. people, "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat ” How many today are burdened down, yea, buried in anxiety and worry about many things! Neither seeing nor hearing all the beautiful and helpful things that God has so lavishly strewn about them, for their enjoyment and blessing. There is no night so dark but that the Sun of Righteousness can make it as bright as the noon day. No burden so heavy but that the everlasting arms will graciously lift it away. No sorrow so deep but that heavenly Comforter can turn it into joy and gladness. No sinful heart so black but that the blood of Jesus can wash it white as snow. Yet the majority continue rejecting Him who alone can help, and keep on worrying. They are like the earthbound man in Pilgrims Progress; burdened with care and vainly searching for riches in the muck beneath his feet, all the time unmindful that just above his head is an angel I holding forth the golden crown of gladness and glory — if he would only look up.
