PRINCIPAL MCCONAHA SPEAKS TO MONMOUTH PARENIS> The Monmouth parent educational organization met Monday in the Monmouth high school. The meeting was called to order by the chairman, Mrs. Robert Rice, followed by prayer and devotions by Mrs. Robert Teeple. Mrs. Floyd Strouse was in charge of a “get acquainted” program. After introductions were made from imitation school slates, Monmouth’s new principal, Mr. McConaha, discussed “What’s Happening in Education?” He based his comments on I.Q. tests given in public schools and their accomplishments. Mrs. Robert Rice explained the coming year’s program; the theme being, “The Drama of Growing Up,” and reported on the book entitled “The Mature Mind,” by Harry Overstreet, which will be used as supplement material. The officers, Mrs. Floyd Strouse, Mrs. Robert Fuhrman, Mrs. Robert Teeple, and Mrs. Robert Rice served as hostesses to the 19 members present. The next meeting will be held, Monday, October 30, with Mrs. Edward Cook presenting the lesson entitled, “How Values Grow in the Family.” PAST PRESIDENTS’ PARLEY MEETING HELD RECENTLY The past presidents’ parley opened their meeting with the group repeating the Lord’s Prayer. Mrs. A. E. Myers. the new president, presided over the business session, during which it was announced that the next district parley is to [ be held at Columbia. City, Octo-1 ber 12. The meeting will begin at* 12 noon with a carry-in dinner. | Mrs. Golda Miller of Logansport' was welcomed as a guest for the evening. After dessert was served by the hostess, Mrs. T. C. Smith, games were played and prizes won by Mrs. Elmer Darwachter, Mrs. A. E. Myers, and Mrs. Dee Fryback. The next meeting will be November 13, with Mrs. Harold Tieman as hostess - PLAY PRESENTED TO MAGLEY WOMEN’S GUILD RECENTLY “Witness of the Mission of the Church” presented in a play form, was viewed by the members of the Magley Women's guild at a meeting held irt the church basement recently. Members of the cast were Mrs. Rolland Sherry. Mrs. Arthur Adam and Mrs. Richard Gerber. Among the many musical selections also offered during the meeting were. “We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nation,” "How are we a Witness," by Mrs. Irvin | Warthman, “In the Garden with; "Jesus,” "a duet by Mrs. Robert Berry and her mother, Mrs. Otto Hildebrand; and “O, Zion Haste.” The Rev. Various committee heads were announced; they are, Mrs. Richard Borne and Mrs. Arno Girod, counselors for the Girl’s guild; program committee, Mrs. Irvin Warthman, Mrs. Richard Gerber, co-chairman. Mrs. Arthur Adam, Mrs. Carl Bieberich, Mrs. Rolland Sherry, Mrs. Herbert 'Smitley, Mrs. Earl Wood, and Mrs. Hattie Warthman. Hostesses: Mrs. Lester Cowans and Mrs. Walter Walchle, cochairmen, Mrs. Walter Egley, Mrs. Milton Hoffman. The Decatur Garden club will celebrate its 25th anniversary, Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Zion E. and R. church, corner of Jackson and Third streets. All of the garden clubs of Adams county have been invited as their guests for the special event. An appropriate program is being planned for the occasion by the committee in charge. The Rosary society will have the regular meeting, Monday evening after church services, at the K. of C. hall.

Saturday, 8 to 11 p.m. at the American Legion hall, the Van Wert peony promenaders, western style square dance club will hold a free, open dance for the general public to view. Those who are interested in learning western style dancing are encouraged to attend. Plans for lessons will be discussed at this dance. Everyone is welcome to get in the singing mood at the Greenbrier U.B. church, Sunday. Mrs. Bernice Shook will be the leader. The church is located two miles South of sign on the Wren-Landeck road,, east of Wren, 0., or four and one half miles east of sign on route 49 between Willshire and Wren, 0. The St. Mary’s and Blue Creek conservation club will have a night trap shoot, Friday, starting at 7:30 p.m. This will be a practice and merchandise shoot. The club grounds is one mile west of Willshire, O. The Decatur Emblem club. No. 172, will have a regular meeting, Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Elks home. All members are requested to attend. ...The Epsilon Sigma chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority will sponsor a rush party at the Han-na-Nuttman shelter house, Wednesday at 8 p.m. All active members and pledges are urged to attend. , The Queen of the Rosary study club will meet Thursday evening after Church services at the home of Mrs. Verner Staub.

At 2 p.m. Saturday at the Decatur Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Wittnesses, Miss Marcella Kay Wiggs of Fort Wayne became the bride of Richard Dale Dellinger of Willshire, Ohio. Floyd Herman Wiggs, father of the bride, performed the single ring ceremony. I Mr. and Mrs. Wiggs, parents of the bride, reside at 7512 Bluffton road, Fort Wayne. The groom is the eldest son of Mr, and Mrs. Fermin Dellinger of Willshire, O. j The bridegroom’s sister, Miss; Rebecca Dellinger, provided mus-, ic. For her wedding, the bride chose a full length gown of lace and tulle fashioned with a full skirt. The fitted bodice was highlighted with a Peter Pan collar and lace sleeves tapering to points over her 6 wrists. Her chapel length veil showered from a lace and tulle plateau trimmed with sequins and she carried a bouquet of white carnations and chrysanthemums. Serving as matron of honor was STRICKLER COUPLE MARK 57TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Strickler celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in their home last Sunday at 5 p.m. The occasion was I also marked with the 79th birthday of Gilbert Strickler. CLARENCE ZINER HOSTESS TO SORORITY Mrs. Frank Crist presented the cultural lesson, “Who We Are,” to the Xi Alpha Xi chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority at their meeting held at the home of Mrs. Clarence Ziner recently. Mrs. Fred Corah was the assisting hostess. “We should make the most of our lives as we all have but one self and one life to live,” explained Mrs. Crist. “Three elements enter into the life we live; personality, heredity and environment. We are not responsible for our heredity, much of our environment we cannot control, but for The power to face life as an individual, we are responsible,” she said. Mrs. Carl Gattshall, president, conducted the business meeting after leading the group in repeating the opening ritual. Mrs. Gattshall stated, “her chapter would give some person an appliqued quilt again this year.” Mrs. Jerome Keller read from the book of Beta Sigma Phi, followed by the closing ritual. Delicious dessert and coffee were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be at the'home of Mrs. William Affolder, assisting hostesses will be Mrs. Martin Weiland and Mrs. G. O. Buckner. To Attend Conference Os Cancer Societies Representatives of the Adams I county chapter of the American j Cancar society will attend a I conference of the Northeastern region to be held Wednesday, Oct. ! 25 in Fort Wayne. They will also j attend a cancer workshop to be i held in Indianapolis Wednesday, I Nov. 1. This was decided Tuesday ! evening at a meeting of the local : group held in the Med-Dent building. Mrs. Robert Krueckeberg, president of the county organization, told the representatives that the i Indianapolis gathering will also be the 25th anniversary celebration of the national health society. She announced that letters had been sent to all county high schools asking that they use a film showing the relationship of smoking to lung cancer. A display of cancer literature will be shown at a meeting of the Adams county federation of Womenjs clubs, it was announced.
