Hobart Beerbower also • grandchild dedicated in verse a poem entitled “Your Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary.” In the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. French journeyed with the group to their son and daughter-in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Harold French. There they greeted their brothers and sisters and many friends and opened their gifts. During the aftefnoon Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Alden presented Mrs. Alden’p mother with a white leather book which she had made entitled "Fifty Golden Years With Mr. and Mrs. Roy French.” In the book was written the summary of their fifty years together. Police Attacked By Mob Os Youngsters NEWARK, N.J. (UP!) — “Let’s
jump the cops.’’ With that chppt, a mob of between 600-800 predominantly Negro youngsters attacked police with fiats and rocks Wednesday outside a junior high school and a pcffloe station. ” *’ The police had been called to break up a fist fight between two boys in front of the West Kinney Street Junior High School, The melee lasted, two hours before police and firemen, using high pressure hosea, were aWe to disperse the juveniles. One policeman and two firemen were injured. School Principal Harry Jellinek said the fight broke out between two unidentified boys when classes were dismissed for the day. He said police were called when teachers were unable to separate the ypuths. As officers took Howard into the station, the crowd shouted “Let him go, you better not keep him there.” ,A stone was hurled through a precinct, window, Others hit the police car. At this point engine company 12 arrived and turned Its poses on the crowd which finally dispersed. In addition to Howard, 'police took eight other juveniles into custody. Howard was charged with assault with intent to kill and atrocious assault and battery.
