Society. GEHRES, CURTIS VOWS READ AT ST. PAUL'S Miss Alice Ann Gehres and Alan Roger Curtis exchanged wedding vows Saturday in a candelight ceremony in the St. Paul’s United church of Christ in Harrison township. The Rev. Robert L. Settlage performed the double ring service. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Gehres of Wren, Ohio, and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Roger Curtis of Stratford, Conn. Mrs. Stuart Stearns of Bowling Green, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Miss Darla Gehres, another sister, was bridesmaid. Serving as best man was Edward Curtis, Stratford, Conn., brother of the groom, and ushers were Ronald Kobeske of Fort Wayne and Robert Florey, Apple Creek. Clifford and Wayne Curtis, also brothers of the groom, lighted the candles. Out of town guests attending were from Cambridge, Marietta, Bowling Green; Fort Wayne, Decatur and Wabash; Lansing, Mich.; and Stratford, Conn. EAGLES AUXILIARY HOLD DISTRICT MEETING SOON The Eagles auxiliary will have their first district meeting, Septtember 9, 2 p.m. at Peru. Mrs. Ada Weldy, the outside guard, will hold a chair. Anyone who will want transportation is to call 3-4107. Also, the Stephen Decatur Aerie No. 2653 will be host to the district meeting November 4. RECEPTION HELD FOR MABEL STRIKER The recorder’s office of the county court house was the scene of a reception held in honor of Mrs. Mabel Striker Wednesday afternoon, who was recently elected vice chairman of the Indiana democratic state central committee. Miss Rose Nesswald and Miss Rosemary Spangler, county recorder, co-workers of Mrs. Striker’s, arranged the reception and served refreshments to the many guests attending. Employes working in the court house, local attorneys, H. H. Krueckeberg of the First State Bank were among the guests attending and served punch and cookies from the office counter neatly turned into a beautifully decorated serving table. Mrs. Striker Will Tuesday to begin her* work as ’ Vice -chairman in Indianapolis. HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB MEETS IN PREBLE RECENTLY Repeating the club commandments opened the meeting of the Sunny circle home demonstration club held recently in the Preble township commity building. Serving as hostesses for the 16 members answering roll call were Miss Matilda Peters and Mrs. Glen Girod. Devotions were given by Miss Peters, and Mrs. Girod presented an interesting citizenship lesson on Adams county and Preble township. “An interesting book or article I have read”, and the history of the song of the month, “Juanita,” were presented by Mrs. Gehard Heckman who then led the group in singing. The meeting was closed reading the collect. Mrs. Gehard Heckman and Mrs. John Borne awarded the door prizes. MONMOUTH F. H. A. MEETS AT LEHMAN PARK The members of the Monmouth F. H. A. chapter enjoyed a pot luck supper at Lehman park, Berne, August 21. Guests were introduced during the short business meeting that followed the meal. The group then went to Pine lake for an evening of swimming and visiting. The Happy Homemakers home demonstration club will meet at the home of Mrs. John Baltzell, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Order of Rainbow for girls will have an initiation practice Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. at the Masonic hall. Candlelight and garden flowers banking the altar provided the setting for the marriage of Mist Mary Esther Speakman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Speakman, to Robert Orville Sutherland, son of E. R. Sutherland, North Garden, Va., last Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Union Chapel EUB church. The Rev. Lee Speakman, brother of the bride, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Angle, read the double ring vows following a half hour musicale by organist, Mrs. Earl Chase. Mrs. Lee Speakman, vocalist, presented the selections, “Wedding Prayer,” “We Promise Thee,” and “Saviour Like A Shephard Lead Us” was sung as the couple were kneeling. The groom sang “To My Bride” before the vows were taken. Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride-was lovely in an. off white floor length gown fashioned with a high net neckline. Draped scallops and lace accented the bodice and full skirt. Her waist length veil was edged in lace and she carried a bouquet of red roses on a white Bible centered with a white orchid. Preceding her down the aisle, Ellamae Speakman served her sister as maid of honor. She appeared in a ballerina length dress of pink net over taffeta, enhanced with a white cape. A floral headpiece completed her costume and she carried a colonial bouquet of yellow roses. ’ The bridesmaid, Mrs. Ronald Kelsey, sister of the bride, wore a gown of blue net over taffeta and white cape, floral headpiece and carried a colonial bouquet of yellow roses. Ruth Ann Speakman, flower girl, and Gina Lee Speakman, junior bride, both*nieces of the bride, wore yellow and aqua organza gowns made by the bride. Each wore an accordion pleated headdress. Gina Lee carried a colonial bouquet of yellow roses and Ruth Apn a basket of red roses. Leslie Speakman served as junior groom and Lavern Speakman serving as ring bearer carried the rings on a heart shaped pillow centered with red roses. Both are nephews of the bride. Wanda Trempert, Miriam Keller, Donna Fast, Mrs. Glen Roughia, and Mrs. John Welters served the guests from a table decorated with a four tiered wedding cake and candle holders with I floral decorations. For a wedding trip to Salem, Va., the new Mrs. Sutherland was wearing an arnel suit dres. The bride is a graduate of Asbury College, Wilmore, Kan., and will be teaching elementary school in Salem, Va. The groom attended Asbury College, has served with the Army medical corps and is presently attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute. The couple are making their home in Salem, Va. \ .
