Cardinal Canali Dies At Vatican VATICAN CITY (UPD—Nicola Cardinal Canali, 87, died today in hia Vatican City apartments. Italian-born Canali was the fifth oldest member of the College of Cardinals and the second cardinal to die this week. Domenico Cardinal Tardini, the Vaican secretary of state, died Sunday of a cardiac collapse. / Canali had been ill for some time and developed pneumonia last' week. His condition had been worsening steadily, and he went into a coma Tuesday. Pope John XXIII had received regular reports on the cardinal’s condition at his summer residence at Castelgandolfo. Canali held the important Vatican posts of papal penitentiary major and president of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican State. The latter post made him “premier” of the 108-acre state. Canali was bom to a noble Italian family on June 6, 1874. He served as a priest in the Vatican secretariat of state and was named assistant secretary of state at the age of 34. Steven Sommer Is Gardening Champ Steven Sommer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Sommer of Monroe township, was declared grand champion in the 4-H gardening judging at the fairgrounds Wednesday afternoon. Steven is in his third year or gardening and his exhibit includes onibns, beets, potatoes, wax beans, peppers, carrots and a display of flowers. Richard Gerber, son of Mr, and Mrs. Richard .Gerber of Kirkland township, received the reserve grand championship honors. Richard is a member of the Kirkland Future Farmers 4-H club and is in his second year of 4-H gardening work. First division winners are: first, Michael Isch of French township; second, Rodney Lautzenheiser of Jefferson township; third, David Chilcote of Jefferson township; fourth, Duane Shifferly of St. Mary's township; fifth, Karen Kay Klopfleish of Jefferson township. Fred Edwin Thompson, 64, North Carolina, was clocked at 41 miles per hour in the same 30 mile zone. He was nabbed at 7:50 p.m., and later appeared in J. P. court to pay a fine of $1 and costs, a total of $18.75. Calvin Leory Durbin, 24, Bluffton, was arrested for reckless driving on Monroe street at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday. Durbin will appear in City court at 9 a.m. Monday to answer to the charge.

Weekend Campout Is Enjoyed By Group Cub Scouts Stephen Alberding, George Allen Foos, Kevin O’Shaughnessey, R. Jay Teeter, and Frederick Teeple of den 3, pack 3061, and their den chief David Teeple of Boy Scout Troop 64, returned Sunday evening from a weekend campout at the Indiana Dunes and the Warren Dunes state park in Michigan. The boys were accompanied by their fathers, Leo Alberding, Harold Teeter, Anthony Teeple and George Foos. Four Women Hurl In Accident Today Three Decatur young women, and a fourth who resides near Decatur, were treated at the Adams county hospital for Injuries suffered in a one-car accident at 6:45 o’clock this morning. In the hospital with injuries are: Shirley Ann Cowens, 23, 424 Closs street, who received neck injuries; Mary Alice Kneuss, .19, 736 Cleveland street, a laceration to the back and left ear and a knee injury; Carol E. King, 20, 312 Winchester street, an injured back; and Shirley Lucile Adams, 24, route 5, Decatur, with injuries to the back and left foot. The mishap occurred when the four were traveling south on U.S. 27 in the car driven by the Adams woman. About seven miles south of Decatur, she attempted to pass a car driven by Carl Edward Stucky, 51, 114 N. 13th street, and the wheels of the vehicle got off the berm. ’ She lost control of the car, and it plunged out into a field, knocking down a portion of a fence along the field. There was no contact with the Stucky car. All four were rushed to the to the Adams county memorial hospital for treatment of their injuries. Deputy sheriff Charles Arnold and state trooper Gene Rash investigated the mishap, and estimated the Adams car as a total loss. z> I 4-H Electricity Winners Announced H.gl 4kH Electricity winners were announced today at the Adams county 4-H fair at Monroe.
