20 Years Ago Today O — o July 31, 1941 — Only two of the county’s 12 townships will owe for road improvement bonds by the end of 1942. City and county officials have received official notice that the state highway commission has abandoned former .routes of U. S. roads 27 and 33 in and near Decatur, and their upkeep will now be done by the city and county. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Swaim, of Bluffton, were among the visitors at the street fair here. A shelter house on the shooting range of the Country conservation club, north of Decatur, was des troyed by fire. Vice president Henry A. Wallace has been appointed head of economic defense. O O | Household Scrapbook I I By ROBERTA LEE I V O Cleaning Mahogany A polish recommended especially for genuine old mahogany is made from boiled linseed .oil (soldi, to which a little vinegar has been added. Rub the oil well off the excess oil, then polish with into the wood with one cloth, wipe another cloth. Protect Stockings Rustic furniture with the bark still on seems to persist in catching on one’s best stockings. Much of this can be avoided if the article is given a coat of clear varnish. Biliousness Plenty of orange and lemon juice will help when having bilious spells. Long-Wearing Hosiery Long-wearing quality can be added to new nylon stockings if you will soak them in some cold water. Add cubes from one refrigerator tray, and when these have melted, squeeze the stockings, and hang j them up to dry. Or, wet the stock-1 ings, put them into a plastic bag, and place in the freezing compa rt m en t of your refrigerator. Take them out after they have frozen, let them thaw, squeeze out, and hang up to dry. Paint On Glass To remove paint from glass, hot vinegar will usually work better and faster than scraping with a razor blade.
