RALPH ROOP AND WIFE MARRIED FORTY YEARS Mr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Roop wil celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday with ?. family dinner at their cottage at Sylvan Lake. ERROR MADE IN GAS SALE ARTICLE WEDNESDAY The gas sale which is to be held at the Parkway 66 station Saturday, June 17. will be sponsored by the Epsilon Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi rather than the Xi Alpha lota chapter as erroneously announced in Wednesday’s Democrat. Tickets are priced at $1 for $1 worth of gas. Free refreshments and prizes will be given. Profits will be donated to various service projects.

ROBERT D. LOBSIGER HONORED WITH DINNER Robert D. Lobsiger, a student at Purdue University, was the guest of hoor at a carry-in dinner held at the American Legion park Sunday. Lobsiger will graduate In aviation technology at Purdue Sunday. The meeting opened with the club prayer, followed by a short business meeting which was conducted by the vice president, Mrs. Helen Bluhm. “A Parable to Young Mothers’’ was read by Mrs. Joyce Brite and Mrs. Ruth Habegger read a poem entitled "Soap.” Mrs. Jane Bluhm presented a reading on “Mother,” followed by a special feature by Mrs. Alice Arnola. The show began with a recital duet on the piano by Sandra and Susan Singletop, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Singleton, follow by tap dancing by Yvonne Davis and Terry Dellinger, students at the Tommy Davis dancing school in Bluffton. Gloria Whitney of Decatur played two selections on her accordian and Ronnie and Leon Habegger, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Gleh Habegger played the violin and piano. Marsha King sang several numbers during the show, accompanied by Mrs. Norval Furhman. A comdey act was presented by Mrs. Elmer Peters, Mrs. Bula Kreutzman and Mrs. Ella Scherry, dressed in farmer’s costumes. EVANGELINE CIRCLE HOLDS LAST MEETING OF YEAR Eight members of the Evangeline circle gathered at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church for the last meeting of the season recently. Five sick calls and nine social calls were reported for the month of May. Mrs. Phyllis Eichenberger read the lesson from the book "Safe in Bondage.” The remainder of the evening was spent in making favors and playing games, after which the hosteses, Barbara Kershner and Madonna Johnson, served refreshments. The Adams Central senior band has scheduled the following sectional rehearsals at 7:15 p.m. on the folowing dates: Monday, June 5, percussion and majorette section; Tuesday, June 6, woodwind section; Thursday, June 8, brass section. The first full senior band rehearsal will be held Tuesday, June 13, at 7 p.m. The Mt. Zion W. M. A. will meet with Mrs. Bertha Daniels Monday at 7:30 p.m. The Junior American Legion auxiliary will meet Monday at 4 p.m. at the Legion home. Scholastic Awards Announced At DHS Recipients of scholastic awards 1 at the Decatur high school for the 1960-61 school year were announced today by Hugh J. Andrews, high school principal. Students are given their D letters the first time they rank high enough for the award, and in additional years are awarded chevrons. Sixteen letters were awarded this year. Receiving them were one senior, one junior, two sophomores and 12 freshmen. £ w. HE. bsJE - Miss Lydia Wilke, above, will speak at 7:30 o’clock this evening at the Church of the Nazarene, Seventh and Marshall streets, for the opening of the weekend missionary convention. Miss Wilke, returned Nazarene nurse and missionary to the Cape Verde islands, is on furlough in the U.S., doing deputation work among churches of the denomination. She is a veteran of 20 years service abroad, and started work on the Cape Verdes in 1960, after being stationed in Swaziland, South Africa. Since 1953, she has been in charge of clinics on the islands of Brava, Fogo and Catarina. Miss Wilke attended Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney, Neb., and graduated from Bethany Nazarene College, Bethany, Okla. After teaching in public schools, she entered the Royal Alexandra hospital, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where she graduated in 1938. The public is invited to attend these services, which will extend through Sunday.
Five From County To Graduate Al Purdue LAFAYETTE, Ind. — President Frederick L. Hovde will give the address and formally confer the degrees upon the candidates at the annual commencement exercises of Purdue University to be held Sunday in the Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music. Twin exercises will be held, one at 9:30 a. m. and the other at 2:30 p. m. I- Graduates of the schools df engineering, school of pharmacy and the division of applied technology will participate in the afternoon program. Graduates in all the other schools and divisions will receive their degrees at the morning exercises. The more than 1,800 candidates for degrees completing their work in the semester ending May 31 will bring the total number of graduates for the academic year to more than 3,000. However, attendance at commencement is optional for those who were graduated at the end of the summer session last August and the end of the first semester last January. Adams county students among this semester’s degree candidates, with their home address and the degree for which they are a candidate, are: A. Berne: Stanley J. Boy Scout Troop 65 Mokes Rugged Hike Boy Scout tropp 65. sponsored by the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren church, made its third trip to Morgan-Monroe state forest recently to make the 10 o’clock line hike, an old Indian teritorial line. The 16-mile hike runs through parts of Brown county and Yellowwood forest, over very rugged country. The group reserved the Rosenban cabin, a two-room log cabin located in the Morgan-Mon-roe forest, as headquarters. Those making the trip were Larry Merriman, Ernie Sautbine, Kenneth Hill, James Williamson, David Snell, Ricky Kelley, Donnie Williams, Steve Schultz, John Marlin, .Ron Smith. David Collier,John Eichenauer, Dennis Smitley, Greg Bixler, Steve Hazelwood, Kenny Vore, Ricky Painter, Randy Hitchcock and Ronnie Ellis. The Scoutmasters were Herald Hitchcock, Herb Kitson, Lloyd Kitson, Joe Hazelwood and Joe Schultz. Others participating were: Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Collier and son.
