CREDIT BUREAU OPEN HOUSE DRAWS MANY PEOPLE Numerous business and professional persons attended the open house given by the Adams county Credit Bureau recently. Acting as hosts were Lloyd Waterson, South Bend, owner; Carl Loser, South Bend, outside talesman; Mrs. Fannie Copeland, tupervisor of Warsaw office; Mrs. Anita Macklin, local supervisor; and members of the board of directors. A luncheon was served at the Fairway restaurant at noon for the board of directors, Those present included Herman Krueckeberg, Jesse Sutton, David Moore, Wilbur Bultemeier, Ralph Habegger, Lloyd Waterson, Carl Loser, Fannie Copeland, and Anita Macklin. Bill Snyder and George Anderson, newly elected directors, were Unable to attend. The following new officers were elected: Ralph Habegger, chairman of the board; Herman Krueckeberg, vice chairman; and Anita Macklin, supervisor retained. Retiring members of the board are David Moore and Ernest Uhrick: PLEASANT MILLS W. S. C. S. MEETS THURSDAY EVENING The Pleasant Mills Methodist Women’s society of Christian Service met Thursday evening at the church. The meeting was opened with the reading of the 96th Psalm by Mrs. Donald Everett followed by the lesson “Our Threefold Pledge.” Mrs. Charles Morrison, Mrs. Harvey Jones and Mrs. Leland Ray assisted. Refreshments were served by Mrs. R. H. Everett and Mrs. Murray Holloway. FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN FOR JOHN MAYS FAMILY A farewell party in honor of the John Mays family who are moving to Marion in the near future was given by the Dynamic Builders and the Revelators class of the First Baptist church in the church basement Thursday evening. DELTA THETA TAU HOLDS INSTALLATION SERVICE Mrs. Robert Durkin and Mrs. James Newton were hostess to members of the Delta Theta Tau sorority at a dinner and installation service held at the White Hall Inn in Van Wert. The lace covered serving tables were adorned with flowers and candles. Small bottles of hand cream served as name cards and favors. Folowing the dinner a short business meeting was held. Mrs. Gerald Bixler and Mrs. Kenneth Shannon were named to help at the 411 night party given for the graduating seniors of Decatur high school. Mary Catherine Spangler, Rosemary Spangler and Dort Dryer were named to the committee to plan the “June Jump” record hop which the sorority is sponsoring at the Communtiy Center June 2. Methodist School Opens Wednesday The annual daily vacation Bible school of the First Methodist church will open Wednesday at the church, and continue through Friday, June 9. Classes will be held from 8:45 to 11 a. m. daily. The school is based on the theme, “Christian home and friends.” There will be classes for children from the ages of four to 14. Mrs. Lowell Smith is dean of the school, with the following named as teachers: Kindergarten I and 11, Mrs. Ray Lehman, Mrs. Ralph Smith, Jr., Mrs. Robert Feasel, Mrs. Ray Walters and Miss Helen Walters; primary—Mrs. Don Boroff, Mrs. James Colter and Mrs. John Beery; junior—Mrs. Gail Baughman, Mrs. Lloyd Cowens, and Miss Cindy Collier; intermediate —Mrs. Doyle Collier and Miss Joyce Helm. Miss Rita Spence will serve as pianist, and Steve Beavers and Jeff Azbell will be in charge of recreation. Other helpers for the school will be Jane Tumlin, Etta Mae Soliday and Beth Ann Snyder. Alumni Banquet At Geneva High School A number of Decatur people were among the 348 graduates, wives and children who attended the annual alumni banquet at Geneva high school Saturday night. The class of 1911, and its two living members, Ralph Filer, of Geneva, and Mrs. Ada Hall, of Mt. Clement, Mich., were honored on the 50th anniversary of their graduation. The class of 1936, celebrating its 25th anniversary, had a large group present. The classes of 1921-1922-1923-1924 also had a reunion following the program. Attending from Decatur were Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Deitsch, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ketchum, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Glendening,' Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Burk, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Strickler, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Drew, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chew, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Fravel. Entertainment was the very excellent presentation of “The Music Man” by Mrs. Reid Erekson. Mr. and Mrs. Jerold Lobsiger, and Kim Lobsiger, of Decatur. The presentation was greatly enjoyed by those present. $179 Awarded For Suggestions Eight employes of the Decatur plant of the General Electric Co. shared $179 for suggestions in improved work at the plant. Top award of $61.50 award went to Delmas Feasel for a tool holder to give a better quality bearing boss. Other suggestion award winners were: Ed Teeple, S3O for two ideas: Bob McAfee, $25: Lawrence Michel, S2O: George Heare, S2O; Homer Liby, $10; Melvin Klopfleish, $7.50, and Solomon Lord, $5. Seven Persons Die In Indiana Traffic By United Press International Indiana got through the first half of the long Memorial Day holiday period with only seven traffic deaths and no multiplefatality accidents. Accidents Friday night through Sunday took their toll in lives at a rate somewhat below that predicted by Safety officials for the 102-hour period from 6 p.m. Friday through midnight Tuesday. Predictions were for 20 to 22 fatalities during the period. The latest fatal accidents Sunday killed Thomas A. Carpenter, 21, Gary, and John Bailey, 83, in Scotland. Carpenter died at a Gary hospital from injuries suffered when his sports car missed a curve and crashed into trees near Gary. Vince Toomire, 20, Gary, riding with him, was injured. Bailey was injured fatally when two cars collided near his Greene County home. He died in Free-man-Green County Hospital at Linton. Bailey was riding in a car driven by William Walls, 34, Scotland. which collided with one driven by David Thompson, 34, Crane, when Walls backed out of a driveway into Thompson’s path. William LaGrange, 16, Shelbyville, was injured fatally on Indiana 9 south of Shelbyville Saturday when a car driven by James D. Sleeth, 19, Shelbyville, overturned,. Sleeth was injured. Carl E. Logan, 73, Plainfield, was injured fatally Saturday night _ when his car and one driven by Charles Broack, 19, Coatesville, collided at an intersection with Indiana 39 north of Clayton. Authorities said Logan’s car crashed into Broack’s. Accidents Friday night and early Saturday killed Jerry Lingle, 14, R. R. 1. Gosport, killed in a farm tractor accident on a Morgan County road near Martinsville; Patricia Sidenbender, 8, Mishawaka, killed when her father’s car went out of control near that city and hit a tree, and Joseph Byhon, 48, Griffith, killed m a three-car collision on the TnState Highway at Hammond. 88 Are Enrolled In Vacation School The Rev. Benj. G. Thomas, pastor of the Bethany E. U. B. church, announced this morning that there will be no vacation church school classes Tuesday, Memorial Day. There were 88 enrolled today as the school opened, with eight in the nursery, 22 in kindergarten, 32 in the primary, and 26 in junior. There are 25 teachers and helpers* enlisted from the Bethany, First Christian and Presbyterian churches to conduct the school. The junior department, grades 4, 5 and 6. meets in the Christian church, and all others at Bethany. The school starts each morning at 9 o’clock. The public is invited to attend. Dale Schnepf lowa State Grad Dale A. Schnepf, son of Mrs. Will Schnepf and the late Mr. Schnepf, was conferred the degree of doctor of veterinary medicine at lowa State University, Ames, lowa, Saturday. The 1961 class graduated 60 in veterinary medicine. Dr. Schnepf received his pre-veterin-ary work at Purdue University. While Schnepf was pursuing his education his wife, tne former . Jacquie Hite, worked as a public school speech therapist for the Ames Community school district. 4-H Lamb Meeting Scheduled Thursday The annual 4-H lamb meeting will be held Thursday, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Everett Single' ton farm, Leo N. Seltenright, county agricultural agent, announced today. The Singleton farm is located 2% miles west of Decatur and two miles north. Russell Brower, extension animal scientist from Purdue, will be the discussion leader. All 4-H lamb members and parents and others interested in sheep are invited to attend. Annual 4-H Beef Tour Thursday Morning The annual 4-H beef tour will be held Thursday, starting at 9:30 a.m., according to Paul Kohne, beef project chairman. The first stop will be at the Dr. John Carroll farm, east of Pleasant Mills. The second stop win be at the __ Robert Bookout farm just southeast of Decatur at 10:15.
