O O Household Scrapbook I By ROBERTA LEE I O — O Grass Seeding The birds won’t eat your grass seed if you color it with bluing before spreading it. Soak the seeds in a solution of bluing and water until well colored, then scatter it. The birls will refuse to touch it, and the coloring won’t affect the fertility of your seed. Clogged Pipes If your sink trap clogs, especially when it’s because of too greasy waste, turn your infrared lamp on the pipes. This will start things moving. A conqimercial drain cleaner will then finish the job. Loosened Screw If a screw has worked loose in its hole, remove it, insert some solid wire solder, and reset your screw. o- c Modern Etiquette By Roberta Lee 0- — —' o Q. Are all plates removed from the dinner table prior to serving the dessert? A. Yes, the table should be plateless. The salt cellars, pepper pots, unused flat silver, are taken from the table, and the crumbs are brushed off with a folded napkin onto a tray held under the table edge. Q. Is it considered absolutely necessary to acknowledge the receipt of a birth announcement with some kind of gift for the baby? A. This is a populor custom,

but it is not an obligation. However, if you do not send a gift, it is nice at least to send a little note of congratulation to the proud parents. Q. Recently I have noticed several persons of apparent refinement using toothpicks at the table. Is this now considered acceptable? A. Most certainly not. Toothpicks should NEVER be seen in use—at the table or anywhere else.
