TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB MEETS THURSDAY The Town and Country Home Demonstration club held their regular monthly meeting Thursday aftemon at the home of Mrs. Cyril Becker. The main feature of the evening was a lesson on “Kitchen Cabinet Storage,” presented by Miss Lois Folk, who also gave a few helpful hints on floor care and waxing. Mrs. Herman Heimann led the group in the singing of the song of the month, “She’ll be Comln” Round the Mountain.” An interesting article on “Radioastive fallout — adequate shelter,” was read by Mrs. William Keller. Following the business meeting, which was conducted by Mrs. Mark Colchin, refreshments were served by the hostess. MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET ATTENDED BY 110 PERSONS The Women’s Guild of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church held its annual mother-daughter carry-in supper Wednesday evening in the church social rooms, with approximately 110 members and guests attending. The dining tables were beautifully decorated with candles and bouquets of flowers. Following the dinner a program was presented in the church social rooms with Mrs. Joe Hazlewood as chairman. Miss Donna Shoaf opened the program with the singing of “A Tribute to Mother,” accompanied by her mother at the piano. Mrs. Ned Johnson read the scripture, followed by a poem by Miss Candice Johnson. The group was favored with a piano selection by Mrs. Linn and her two daughters, folowing a duet by Mrs. Linn and

Mrs. Hazlewood then introduced Mrs. Catherine Helm who presented a book review, “Three Churches and a Model T.” A short business meeting was conducted by Mrs. George Thomas and the evening ended with prayer. Hostesses for the evening were: Mrs. Fruchte, Mrs. Harry Frauhiger, Mrs. Vernon Frauhiger, Miss Margaret Fruchte, Mrs. Curt Fritzinger, Mrs. Wm. Fritzinger and Mrs. R. E. Gantz. MRS. KENNETH NASH ENTERTAINS BRIDGETTES The Bridgettes were entertained at the home of Mrs. Keneth Nash recently. High prize was won by Mrs. Bryan Trout, and Mrs. John Brecht won the second prize. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Dan Comans. FORT WAYNE COUPLE TO WED IN AUGUST The engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Roberta May Baker to Danny D. Widmann has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Baker, Carroll Road, Fort Wayne. The future bridegroom is the son of Mrs. George Gephort, 2336 Chesnut street. Fort Wayne, and the late Mr. Widmann. Miss Baker is a graduate of Huntertown high school and is a student at Purdue University Extension. She is employed at Grant’s in Northcrest. Her fiance was graduated from North Side high school and is presently serving with the U. S. Army at Fort Knox, Ky. The wedding will take place August 12 in the Trinity Episcopal church of Fort Wayne. MRS. AUSTIN MERRIMAN IS HOSTESS TO SALEM WSCS Mrs. Austin Merriman was hostess to 12 members, three children and two guests, Mrs. Clara Dolch and Mrs. Fred Myers, at the May meeting of the Salem Women’s Society of Christian Service recently. Mrs. Merle Riley, vice president, conducted the meeting and led the group in prayer. Devotions were under the direction of Mrs. Mertiman. Mrs. Lloyd Meyer called the roll and read the minutes of the April meeting. Mrs. Claude Foreman gave the lesson "Our Threefold Pledge,’’ assisted by Merriman, Mrs. Oscar Young and Mrs. Rue Strayer. Mrs. Leroy Miller reported on an article from the Methodist Woman, after which poems were read by Mrs. Riley and Mrs. Strayer. Mrs. Carl Schug, in-coming president, appointed committees for the new year and made plans for the group to attend the officers training school to be held May 11 from 9:30 to 10:30 a m. at the Monroe,
church. Mrs. Fred Myers offered the dismissal prayer and refreshments were served by Mrs. Merriman.. Mrs. Meyer will be hostess at the June meeting, at which time a silent auction will be held. ROADSIDE COUNCIL DONATES TREES TO TWO LOCAL PARKS The Adams county Roadside Council met Wednesday afternoon at the Decatur public library. The president, Mrs. Ervin Stucky, opened the meeting with a reading, and prayer was given by Mrs. Delton Passwater. The minutes of the last local meeting and those of the meeting held at Turkey Run state park March 14 were readMrs. Stucky announced that two red flowering crabs has been purchased and that they will be planted in the Highland park and in the Winteregg park, honoring those in the group who have passed on.. The group then moved to the Highland park where they planted a tree donated by Mrs. John Floyd, after which they went to the home of Mrs. N. A. Bixler for coffee. The May state meeting will be held at the American Legion Home in Decatur May 9. The officers will meet at 9:30 a.m. with a general meeting at 10. C. W. F. ENTERTAINS AT MOTHER-DAUGHTER PARTY A profusion of aprons and flowers filled the fellowship room of the First Christian church as the Christian women's fellowship entertained mothers, daughters and guests at an apron party Sunday afternoon. A variety program preceded an apron style show which featured a large selection of aprons, some very old, modern ones, a novelty group and several from foreign countries. Following a brief welcome by Mrs. John F. Rosier, C. W. F. president, the program was opened by a solo, “Tie Me To Your Apron Strings Again,” by Mrs. Jerry Williamson. Mother’s Day poetry was read by Peggy and Kathy Hill, Marcia Jessup, Glenda Scheiderer and Mrs. Homer Ruhl. Baby sitting was the subject of a play, “Mother’s Day Out,” presented by Norman Koons and children, Cindy and John; James Webb, Richard Rowe, Everett Faulkner, and, the unseen but frequently heard baby, Charlene Hill. The play was under the direction of Mrs. Rosier. Palms and a garden wall enhanced with sprigs of fire bush set the scene for the parade of aprons narrated by Mrs. Charles Hill. Models for the afternoon were Miss Glennys Roop, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rowe. Miss Kathy Hill, Miss Jessup, Miss Scheiderer, Cindy Koons. Louise Stucky and Faulkner. Accompanist was Mrs. Wdliam Bauman, pianist. A pastel green lace cloth covered the large serving table for the punch-coffee hour. A tall center-

HAS MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET The group singing of “Faith of our Mothers” opened the meeting which was held preceding the annual mother-daughter banquet of the Monroe Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service. The president, Mrs. Harry Crownover, welcomed the guests and read a letter from Maxine Coleman, after which Mrs. Russell Mitchel played the offertory. The mealtime prayer was offered by Mrs. Willis Gierhart and a delicious meal was served by the men of the church to 175 members and guests on tables beautifully adorned in spring colors with maypole menterpieces. A group of women favored the dinner guests with a song entitled “Hats,” following the meal. Bibles were presented to Mrs. Otto Longenberger and Mrs. Ervin Stuckey and other gifts were presented to Mrs. Betty Bloomberg, Mt. Clemens, Mich.; Mrs. Martha Tifk, Berne; Mrs. Chester Longenberger, Miss Joni Nussbaum, Miss Charlene Steed and Miss Virginia Burkhead. After these presentations, a duet was sung by Mrs. Lynn Poorman and daughter Sonja and a solo was sung by Sonja. The mother, daughter and grandmother responses were given by Mrs. Paul Nussbaum, Miss Jacquelin Nussbaum and Mrs. Harvey Haggard, respectively. John Eicher showed slides entitled “Count Your Blessings,” and the closing prayer was given by Mrs. Harold Schwartz. The Women of the Moose will hold their annual mother and daughter banquet at the Moose home Thursday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m. Members may bring either their mother, daughter, or one invited guest. Mrs. Clarence Ziner will be hostess to the Xi Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. The Live and Learn Home Demonstration club will meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Chalmer Barkley, after which they will drive to Huntington for a tour of the city. The Pleasant Mills Baptist church will have a family night at the St. Mary’s and Blue Creek township clubhouse Wednesday evening at 6:30. Those attending are asked to bring their own table service for the carry-in supper. A bazaar, games and films will comprise the entertainment for the evening. The Decatur Business and Professional Women’s club will hold a “desert” meeting at the American Legion home Wednesday evenig at 7:30. A unique Hawaiian party is being planned by the health and safety committee which is composed of Irene Hicks, chairman, Betty Singleton, Fern Fogel, Norma Mahan, Josephine Meyer, Margaret Sutton, Cynthia Buettner, Vera Lehman, Mary Schnepp, Norma Von Stroh, Henrietta Snively, Beverly Trout, Clara Ellen Hitchcock and Ann Husmann. This meeting will be in honor of the 24th birthday of the club. Members are urged to invite mothers and other guests. The 0. N. O.
