SPRING LEGISLATIVE MEETING TUESDAY St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church. Vera Cruz, wil be the scene of the regional spring legislative meeting of the Fort Wayne Regional Women's Guild Tuesday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m. Mrs. Otto Gumpper of Fort Wayne is the regional Guild president and Mrs. Roger Schaffer is president of the Guild at Vera Cruz. The Rev. Henry G. Krochler, president of Michigan-Indiana Synod of the Evangelical and Reformed church wiil be the guest speaker. A native of Minnesota, TRev. Kroehler graduated from Elmhurst College and Chicago Theological Seminary. He has done graduate work at the University of Missouri and Yale University. He also taught German for two years at the University of Missouri. Rev. Krochler has held pastorates in Chicago and Homewood, II)., Hebron, N. D., Herman, Mo., and Jackson, Mich., in 1956 he was elected as first full-time president of Michigan-Indiana synod. The Rev. L. C. Minsterman is pastor of St. John’s church. Lunchon will be served and a “Nursery provided for small children. UNION CHAPEL W. S. W. S. ACCEPTS NEW MEMBER Mrs. William Welker became a new member of the Union Chapel Women s Society of World Service at the recent meeting which was held at the home of Mrs. Donald Smith. Mrs. Kenneth Angle, leader for the evening, spoke on, “Where are We Going?” The hynfft, “The Light of the World is Jesus.” was sung, after which Mrs. Homer Miller read the scripture lesson and offered prayer. Those present were divided into “buzz groups,” under the direction of Mrs. Donald Smith. Miss Frieda Williamson, Miss Janet Brown and Mrs. Earl Mounsey. “Surrender” was sung by Miss Betty Walters and Mrs. Nile Williamson. The meeting was closed with a candle light ceremonialby Miss Veda Williamson. Mrs. Donald Smith conducted the business meeting. Refreshments were served by the hostess. GARDEN CLUB PLANS TRIP TO BROWN COUNTY The Decatur Rose Garden club met Tuesday afternoon at the i»me -OOSadCl-D 1 - Amick. The meeting was opened with the club collect and the pledge to the flag. A lesson entitled “How seeds germinate." and another, “A study of seedlings," were given by Mrs. Cecil Gause. A general discusion followed these lessons. The minutes of the March meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. Ochsenrider, and the roll was called and answered with the name of a favorite winter house plant. gram. The members also voted to purchase a tree which will be planted at the Southeast school. Club books for the new year were distributed and each member was asked to wear her club pin or be subjected to a fine. Plans for visiting flower gardens in Brown county in May were made. Anyone interested in making this one-day trip to Brown county should contact Mrs. Niland Ochsenrider. Mrs. Wilber Stanley was in charge of the entertainment and the prizes were won by Mrs. Alva Buffenbarger and Mrs. Paul Daniels. Mrs. Amick, assisted by Mrs. Floyd Arnold, served refreshments at the close of the meeting. EIGHTEEN OLIVE REBEKAH LODGE MEMBERS MEET Eighteen members of the Olive Rebekah Lodge met Tuesday evening at the Odd Fellows hall. The inspection found all officers present. District deputy, Meurlin Irvin of Montpelier, was present at this meeting. Other guests were Mrs. Edna Brown, district vice president of Bluffton, ahd Mrs. Beverly Everhart of Montpelier. The progressive prize was won by Mrs. Virgina Merriman, and Mrs. Laura Stanley received the door prize. Refreshments were served following the meeting. MR. AND MRRCHARLES BURRELL AKE WED 64 YEARS Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burrell will celebrate their sixty-fourth wedding anniuersary Saturday. The couple were married April 15, 1897, in Union township by the Rev. Culberson, pastor of the Pleasant Grove church. Mrs. Burrell is the former Susan Murphy. Mr. and Mrs. Burrel are active members of the Union Chapel Evangelical United Brethren church just east of Decatur. Due to the illness of Mrs. Burrell, the couple will observe this event in a quiet way at their home, 728 High street. Mr. Burrell is in excellent health. The Burrell’s are the parents of three children: Clyde of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Freeman Schnepp of Decatur, and Mrs. Russell Klinger of Kansas City, Kansas. They also have six grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. DELTS TO SPONSOR SALE OF COTTON CANDY SATURDAY Mrs. John Bayles was hostess to members of Delta Theta Tau Sorority at her country home Tuesday evening. Final plans were made at this meeting concerning the sale of cotton candy Saturday, on the court house lawn beginning at 12 noon. The Delts will sponsor a rummage sale Saturday, April 22. at the C. L. of C. Hall beginning at 9 o’clock. The girls are to bring their articles to the hall Thursday, April 20, between 12 noon and 3 p.m. Harriet Mallonee won the balloon bursting contest. WELCOME WAGON CLUB SEWS CIVIL WAR HATS Mrs. Dan Tyndall was hostess to the Welcome club at her home recently. Three guests, Mrs. John Dell, Mrs. Ronald Calclasure, and Mrs. Leroy Lepley, helped the members sew hats to be worn in the Civil War parade. Games were played and prizes were won by Mrs. Richard Rowe, Mrs. Ronald Calclasure and Mrs. Lee Hopingarner - Refreshments were served" by Mrs Tyndall, assisted by Mrs. Robert Gage. FASHION COORDINATOR TO SPEAK TO WOMAN’S CLUB The Art department has arranged the program for the April meeting of the Decatur Woman’s club which will be held Monday. April 17, at the Community Center. Mrs. Windsor Cravens and her committee, which consists of Miss Kathryn Kauffman. Miss Charlotte Vera and Mrs. Lloyd Cowens, will present Miss Cynthia Cahtelon of Fort Wayne, who will speak on “Glamour should be spelled with a you.” In her position as fashion coordinator for the Wolf and Des-! sauer store. Miss Cantelon is much in demand as a speaker' before women’s organizations. I Her schedule Is particularly' heavy during this spring season when she is called upon to produce dozens of style show’s, plan-1 ning down to the last detail all the models, changes, and commentary involved. MRS. GLEN STUCKY HOSTESS TO BETTER HOMES CLUB The Better Homes Demonstration club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Glen Stucky. The meeting was opened with the reading of the club creed. Devotions were given by Mrs. Raymond Crist. Mrs. Stucky led the group in the singing of the song of the month, “Loch Lomond.” The history of the song was given by Mrs. Gierhart. The lesson, “Buying becoming clothes,” was presented by Mrs. Claude Laisure, who pointed out the importance of good posture to make clothes becoming. She also! stated that it was important to buy to fit the individual personality. The president. Mrs. Wilbur Stanley. was in charge of the business session- She reported on the council meeting and a trip was discussed. The ways and means committee conducted an auction of articles contributed by members having birthdays during the first four months of the year. Mrs. Clifford Essex was auctioneer and the auction netted $8.48. Mrs. TeFrona Floyd dismissed the meeting with prayer, after which delicious refreshments were served to 26 members by the hostesses.
