Fabrics Help Styles Adapt To Traveling People who are thinking of new wardrobes for spring are likely to be thinking in terms of travel, too. This, at any rate, is the premise from which most of the current approach to fashion has evolved. Both fluctuating spring temperatures and travel plans call for adaptable coats, and fashion responds with capacious styles in fabrices chrip, spongy or ribbed, but always amenable to weather changes. New coats disclose these standout trends; cape-influenced fullness, collarless necklines and color, color, color. Fresh in Shape Fresh-looking shape is the coat that starts with a collarless, or nearly so, neckline and then swings out in a swirl of fabric. Then there are full coats with deep armholes and cape backs, and some “real” capes, full length or shorter. Narrow coats are by no means neglected. They make their own fashion impact with side closings, side slashes and, of course, collarless necklines. The fitted coat gets new treatment. It’s really demi-fitted, and may take a low-placed, easy belt. Look to Neckline* Designers give an enormous play to the no-collar look. There are cardigan necklines, stand-up ring collars, flat band collars. In the cases where a genuine collar appears, it’s apt to be a cowl or a cape effect. More conventional notched collars stand away from the throat leaving space for scarves or jewelry. With simplicity the rule in styling, color gets a chance to glow, and glow it does, in bushels of strawberry pinks, purple violets, tangy lemons— greens, turquoise, orange, too. To compete, navy is brightened, beige turns to string and sand hues,

Wedding Fashions Follow Tradition In Opulent Ways Current bridal collections offer an enticing section for the spring bride. Tradition elegance is retained, along with the air of new fashion. Fabrics are luxurious — lace, organza, taffeta chiffon, tulle, peau de soie and silks of all kinds— and styling is dramatic. Sheaths and gowns with bouffant or ell-shaped skirts take sweeping trains, some of which are removable. In fact the convertible aspect of wedding dresses is notable, making many suitable for a grand ball as well as a weding. A lace train, for instance, is removable to become a cape. A beaded bolero comes off to show a beaded bodice. Fashion notes include the detachable tunic. Black interest for another gown is developed through a fashionable cowl neckline, highlighted by a silk organza cabbage rose. A separate lace redingote covers a floor-length organza gown, while still another silk organza gown has vertical pleating to form cap sleeves bodice and apron effect. COLORS AFOOT In color, men’s shoes are making big strides in burnished and bronzed browns, olive and ivy browns and black — chiefly in smooth and lightly grained leathers.
