UPI Picks Kokomo As State Champion INDIANAPOLIS (UPD—Figururing that it’s about time Kokomo breaks a 50-year drought, United Press International today picked the Wildcats to win the Indiana high school basketball tourney. If the North Central Conference champs cut down the nets at Butler Fieldhouse here March 18. a new winner of the “Hoosier Madness” would be crowned for the second consecutive year. East Chicago Washington did the honors last year. Beaten only by Muncie Central in its 20-game regular season schedule, Kokomo has the balance, height and savvy to pick up all the marbles. The Wildcats of coach Joe Platt ranked tops in the state virtually the entire season. And they have Richie Scott back. The 6-5 sharpshooter and rebounder was injured five weeks ago and started for the first time since then against New Castle last Friday, contributing 10 points. With Scott, Jim (Goose) Ligon and Ronnie Hughes leading the way, Platt’S powerhouse has all the markings of a championship crew. Pro Basketball Syracuse 126, Los Angeles 121.
