Lollar, the White Sox’ All-Star catcher of 1959, hit .252 .and 46 runs batted in and seven home runs while first baseman Dropo batted .268 with 21 RBl's and only four homers. Chicago manager Al Lopez excused Lollar’s off-season on a pulled tendon in his right knee, claiming it affected the backstop’s batting stance for almost two months at the height of the campaign. Lollar will be playing his 10th season with the White Sox. Also signed by the Sox Wednesday was 24 - year -old outfielder Floyd Robinson, who was purchased from San Diego on Aug. 13. Baltimore inked pitchers Wes Stock and Steve Dalkowski in addition to Dropo. Stock, used mainly in relief, compiled a 2-2 record and a 2.91 earned run average

State Champ East Chicago Tough Again (Third of four stories on probable team alignments by som 1state districts in the Indiana high school basketball tourney.) By KURT FREUDENTHAL United Press International INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) —Don’t be surprised if defending state champion East Chicago Washington hangs on to its northwestern semi-state title in the Indiana high school basketball tourney. Now that they have tasted the sweetest victory of all in Hoosier schoolboy sports for the first time, coach Johnny Baratto’s Senators aren’t about to surrender the crown without a tough scrap. If they keep going, they play the first two tourneys on their home floor before advancing to the Purdue Fieldhouse at Lafayette. And anything can happen In the semi-state. Baratto’s boys, although virtually rebuilt since last year, proved their prowess by going unbeaten in the West NIHSC. They are favored to take a nifty 17-4 record into next week’s sectional tourney, compared ~to an 18-2 mark last year. Farrell Sparks Berries The champs may get their first real challenge in the regional from East NIHSC champ Michigan City which beat them during the season, 74-61. Or from the Gary sectional winner, probably Roosevelt or Froebel. The other top team In the northwest is Logansport, sparked by North Central Conference scoring champion Danny Farrell. Both Froebel and Roosevelt lost at East Chicago during the season, Froebel by 20 points and Roosevelt by just 2. However Froebel also holds a 5-point win over the champs. And East Chicago Roosevelt bowed to the Senators by 10 points. The Steel City sectional should be a thriller, with Froebel and Roosevelt the standouts. The two can’t collide until the title round. Froebel bested Roosevelt twice in overtime by a total of four points. The other Gary teams apparently are out of the running. Union Twp. Unbeaten Michigan City tops the field in its own bailiwick, with LaPorte and unbeaten Union Twp. the strongest dissente'rs. Michigan City’s Red Devils have been licked only by East Chicago Roosevelt early in the season, 56-55, and at Gary Roosevelt, 72-66. Logansport, beaten pnly at Muncie Central and twice by Kokomo, takes an eight - game winning streak into Friday’s season finale at Fort Wayne South. The Berries are heavy favorites in their sec-tional-regional field. The Covington regional district, on paper, at least, doesn't measure up to the three others. Sectional champs from Attica, Crawfordsville, Greencastle and Rockville gain the Covington regional, with the host team probably favored to gain the “Sweet 16”, provided it survives the Attica sectional. Eagles Lose To Huntington Catholic Five A desperation toss, with the ball in the ait* at the final buzzer, gave Huntington Catholic a 61-59 victory over the Monmouth Eagles Tuesday night in the Eagles’ final home game of the season. The loss left Monmouth with a record of 10 victories and nine defeats. The Eagles close their schedule Friday night at Montpelier. It was a frustrating setback for Monmouth. The Eagles led at the first quarter, 16-10, and at the half, 29-24, but saw their lead dissipate to one point, 44-43, at the third period. The Eagles built their lead up to 14 pointe with slightly more than five minutes to play, but the Ramblers fought back to tie the score, then held the ball for the final shot. Godfrey topped Huntington with 21 points and three other Ramblers were in double figures. Loren Bieberich paced Monmouth with 16 points, Dave Singleton tallied 14, Don Brown 12 and Dennis Braun 11. Roy Fuhrman, Monmouth regular, was still out of the lineup due to an infection and his play in the sectional is uncertain. Huntingion FG FT TP Broderick 3 6 12 Eckart3 5 11 Petre ...
