MRS. JOHN BARKLEY HOSTESS TO DEBORAH CIRCLE The Deborah circle of the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren church met recently at the home of Mrs. John Barkley. Mrs. Max Gilpin, leader, spoke on “Into All the World Together." A playlet concerning study was presented by Mrs Paul Johnson, Mrs. Lester Sautbine, Mrs. Herbert Kitson, Mrs. Gerald Light and Mrs. Gilpin. The leader read the scripture and Mrs. Russell DeBolt closed the study with prayer. The chairman, Mrs. Herald Hitchcock, led the business meeting. Two new members, Mrs. Walter Henkel and Mrs. Hiram Wittwer , were welcomed into the circle as new members. Refreshments were served by Mrs Barkley. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. James Shackley, with Mrs. Dale Whetstone leading. MEMBERS OF SURVEYOR'S OFFICE HAVE PARTY FRIDAY A delicious dinner was served to the employes and and their families of the Adams county surveyor’s department Friday evening at the home of surveyor and Mrs. Herman Moellering. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Merriman, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hirschy, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rich, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Burkhart, and Mr. and Mrs. Oran L. Schultz. SALEM W.S.C.S. HAS JANUARY MEETING The Salem Methodist Woman’s Society of Christian Service met with Mrs. Roy Frank recently. Mrs. Austin Merriman, president, conducted the meeting. The devotions were given by Mrs. Frank, who used the theme, “Recalling Our Heritage--Expanding Our Horizons.” Scripture was read and subjects from the devotional book were presented. The members accepted an invitation from the Decatur Methodist church to hear Miss Victoria Lang, returned missionary from Africa, who will speak at services there. ELEVEN ATTEND TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB MEETING Eleven members answered the roll call at the meeting of the Town and Country Home Demonstration club, which was held at the home of Mrs. Mark Colchin recently. A lesson on house plants was given by Mrs. Herman Meyers during the course of the evening. Mrs. Herman Heiman gave the history of the song of the month, "America,” which was then sung in unison. The club constitution and by-laws were read to toe group by Mrs. Cyril Becker. Following the club prayer re freshments were served by Mrs. Max Colchin. VALPO GUILD TO SEE TOURNAMENT OF ROSES FILM A colored film of the Tournament of Roses perade at Pasadena, Calif., will be shown at the Decatur circuit chapter of the Valparaiso University Guild meeting Tuesday evening at the Emmanuel Lutheran church, Soest. The film is being shown through the courtesy of the Lutheran laymen’s league, which annually sponsors a religious float in the parade and has won many prizes for its exhibits. Mrs. Paul Wolf is program chairman, assisted by Mrs. Charles Reynolds, Mrs. Louis Schulenberg, and Mrs. Louis Jacobs. Mrs. Erwin Franke, president, will conduct the business meeting. Report of the nominating committee will be heard and plans for a spring project will be discussed. Funds from the local chapter are sent to the national guild for use in rehabilitating Heritage hall on Valpo’s campus. It is one of the oldest buildings there and is being rebuilt for use as classrooms, student lounge, offices and a remedial reading library. The local chapter is cele-

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Barker of route 3, Decatur, and Mr. and Mrs. John L. King of route 6, Decatur, are the parents of the groom. Girl Scouts Girl Scout troop 473 met at the Youth and Community center recently after school. They divided into the three patrols and each leader collected dues. The troop leader discussed the troop’s schedule for coming meetings. They hope to have a few talks from people who have visited foreign lands. Hartke Speaks To State Legislature INDIANAPOLIS (UPI)--Sen. Vance Hartke made a few nonpolitical remarks today in separate sessions of the Indiana Senate and House, expressing a belief that Republicans and Democrats would work together in the legislature in the interests of the people of the state. Hartke came here for the inauguration of Matthew E. Welsh as governor. House and Senate convened at 9 a. m. CDT, and after a few preliminaries recessed until after the 10 a. m. inaugural of Lt's Gov. Richard Ristine and the 11 a. m. inaugural of Welsh. The Senate adopted a bipartisan resolution praising retiring Lt. Gov. Crawford Parker for his work as presiding officer. The House held a special swearing in ceremony for Rep. William P.
