Rtaph Tahash, the prison's stocky. CMtar-ebewing acting warden. Mid the men were confined to a cellblock reserved for troublemakers because they plotted two similar incidents last September. The prisoners set a number of small tires, burning bed clothing and even personal items until guards brought a fire hose into plao Then the prisoners began .shooting abuse at the guards. "We gave .them the tear gas after .they'd been hollering and raising hell for an hour." Tahash said "They quieted down right away then, and I think they'll stay that way awhile." But to make sure he could handle any further outbreak, Tahash called back to duty several off-duty guards. He aadd the guards would wait until "things are completely cooled down" before entering the cells to estimate damage. That meant the convicts would shaver without blankets or windows in [ their cells The inmates were identified as J ringleaders of a 15-hour sitdown i Mriloe on the prison baseball field i and were involved in an unsuci cessful plot to burn down the prison twine factory.
