A 11 1., BPW ACCEPTS NEW MEMBERS AT ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY Red-nosed reindeer and giftladen sleighs set the theme for . the annual Christmas party of the Decatur Business and Professional Women’s club, held Wednesday night in the social rooms of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church. Forty-one members attended, three of them new; Mrs. Nancy Luers, a teacher at the Zion Lutheran school, Mrs. Henrietta Snively, teacher at Flatrock Lutheran school, and Mrs. Beverly Trout, a nurse. Punch was served in the reception room preceding dinner. Recorded Christmas music orovided a background throughtout the evening. White-covered tables placed in the shape of a plus sign were centered with a small table featuring a large red Christmas candle and green holly wreath arrangement. with red tapers in Three Wisen ic-n" holders at each corner. Place cards and progfam books repeated the sleigh and reindeer theme. Red candles and evergreen completed the table arrangements. A small wooden sleigh under a lighted Christmas tree held gifts for the exchange. Dr. Elizabeth Peck was awarded a sleigh from the decorations as winner of a contest on Christmas song titles; Mrs. Grace Weiland, one as winner of a progressive game; Mrs. Vera Lehman, one as door prize, and Mrs. Josephine Myers won the candle from the centerpiece. Miss Lucile Beavers preceded group singing of carols by telling of the origin of one of the oldest of all, “Joy to the World. Miss Glennys Roop was pianist. The serving of dessert and coffee concluded the festivities. Although no business meeting was held, an offering of $18.35 was t taken for the Good Fellows club. . * Hostesses for the party were Mrs. Vera Doty, Mrs. Betty Rosier, Mrs. Suzanne Smith, Mrs. Pearl Whetstone, Miss Beavers and Mrs. Maxine Ford; officers of the club. TWENTY-EIGHT MEMBERS ATTENDCHRISTMAS PARTY Twenty-eight members and two guests of the Merrier Mondays Home Demonstration club enjoyed a delicious pot luck supper served on beautifully decorated tables in .the basement of the Bill Barger country home. recently. This was their Christmas meeting and Mrs. Barger, assisted by Mrs. Richard Conrad and Mrs. Carlton Worthman, was hostess. Following the meal the regular meeting took place. The roll call was answered with “What I would do with a 25th hour in the day.” Mrs. Junior Arnold gave a report on the gifts which were donated to the mental health project. Mrs. John Barger gave the history of the song of the month and then led the group in the singing of various Christmas songs. Mrs. Robert Hildebrand read two poems, “What Else Could He Know?” and “Christmas is Remembering,” followed by the reading of the Christmas story by Mrs. Roger Ripley. ..During the social hour, secret pal* pere revealed and 'gifts were ff The guests who attended the meeting were Mrs. Phil Barger, Mrs. Eddie Bryan, Mrs. David Helmrick and Mrs. Dan Ross. Mrs. Wilbur Stanley, president, . offered prayer before the dinner : was served. Following the deli- ; cious meal, reports were given of the trip to the flower show at McCormack Place, Chicago, by Mrs. Niland Ochsenrider, Mrs. Grover Levy, Mrs. Carl Barnett, Mrs. Bert Haley and Mrs. Walter - Stanley. Christmas carols were sung by the group, , with Mrs. Ralph E. , ’ Roop accompanying them on the piano. Mrs. Bert Haley read, • “There’ll Always Be a Christmas” and “Night Before Christmas.” Mrs. Paul Daniels read a story, “The Legend of the First Creche.” Santa Claus then appeared and distributed gifts. Mrs. Dale Moses won a contest and Mrs. C. D. Amick was presented the door prize. The table was beautifully decorated in the Christmas theme and the centerpiece was then taken to the library in memory of the deceased members of the club. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Joseph Hunter. n MRS.
