FORTY PERSONS ATTEND W.S.C.S. CHRISTMAS DINNER Forty members and guests including Mrs. Herman Girod, Miss Margaret Mendenhall and Mrs. James Teeple and children, attended the annual Christmas dinner of the Salem Woman’s Society of Christian Service held at the church Thursday. Following the dinner the group gathered in the church sanctuary for the business meeting and program. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Austin Merriman, followed by devotions by Mrs. Roy Frank and the Rev. Leon Lacoax. Mrs. Merle Riley was in charge of the program which included a piano prelude by Mrs. Roy Miller, the poems, “Christmas Bells” and “Christmas Carols," by Mrs. Claude Foreman; a duet by the Rev. and Mrs. Lacoax; a reading of the minutes of the 1929 ChristK mas program by Mrs. Floyd Meyer; a duet by Mrs. Carl Schug and Mrs. James Teeple; a solo by M acquit a Lacoax; and a whistling solo of “Joy to the World” by Mrs. Elisha Merriman. Recorded Christmas carols were played during the presentation of the lesson, “This is His Birthday,” which was given by Mrs'. Lacoax. Assisting her were Mrs. E. Merriman, Mrs. Riley, Mrs. Schug, Mrs. Oscar Young, the Rev. Lacoax and daughter, Marquita. The articles, "How to Keep Christmas” and “The Wise Men Meditate” were read by Mrs. Frank Myers, and “Christmas on the Mexican Border” was presented by Mrs. Miller. Following the calling of the roll and the reading of the minutes by Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Schug closed the meeting with prayer. MONMOUTH GRADES TO PRESENT PANTOMIME Thursday evening at 7:30 the six elementary grades of the Monmouth school will present Karin Asbrand’s pantomime entitled, “Christmas Symbols,” as the feature part of the Monmouth P.T.A.’s annual Christmas program. “Christmas Symbols" is a pantomime built around fifteen of the best known symbols of Christmas portrayed by a cast of fifteen girls and told by four different narrators. Music for the presentation will be provided by choruses of the three lower grades and three upper grades of the elementary school and the junior high school. mime the PTA is sponsoring a visit from Santa Claus during which treats will be distributed and the hospitality committed will serve refreshments. The public is invited. PAST PRESIDENT’S PARLEY HAS ANNUAL MEETING The Past President’s Parley of the American Legion auxiliary held their annual Christmas party at the Legion home Sunday afternoon. The members and their families were guests at a 5 o’clock dinner. Following the dinner a business session was conducted by the president, Mrs. Wilson Beltz. A gift exchange was also held. Later in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Tillman Gehrig showed beautiful slides of the department convention, which was held in August in Fort Wayne. They also showed pictures of their summer home on Turkey Lake and other places which they bad visited. The next meeting of the Parley will be held January 9, with Mrs. Joseph Hunter as hostess. MRS. OSCAR GEIBEL PRESENTS PIANO STUDENTS Mrs. Oscar Gqisel presented her students to a piano recital at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at her home west of Decatur. Participating in the recital were Linda Henschen, Beth Arnold. Allen Arnold, Sally Leyse. Kathy Barger, Debbie Barger, Angelia Mitchell, Ronda Arnold, Phillip Arnold, Ronnie High, Connie High, Karleen Nussbaum, Pamela Nussbaum, Lee Ann Reed, Harry Reed, Connie Arnold, Barbara Barger, and Mary Ann Douglas. Those unable to attend were Bill Hunt, Kenny Liechty and Diane Steffen. Guests included Gretchen Lyse and Kathy McKean. Following the recital, lovely refreshments, in keeping with the Christmas season, were served. DYNAMIC BUILDERS HAVE CHRISTMAS PARTY The Dynamic Builders class of the First Baptist church held its annual Christmas dinner in the church basement Friday evening. Following a delicious ham dinner the following officers were elected for the coming year: James J. Strickler, president; Gerald Morningstar, vice president; Erma Stiger, secretary-treasurer; and Frances Soldner, correspondence secretary. The devotions, given by the new minister, the Rev. Robert McQuaid, were taken from I Corinthians: 13. Following the business meeting a gift exchange was held. OLIVE SHOAF IS PRESIDENT OF LADIES AID Olive Shoaf was elected president of the St. Paul Ladies Aid at their recent meeting held at the home of Mrs. William Thornton. Others elected to office were: Helen Franz, vice president; Helen Welch, secretary-treasurer, and Martha Mcßride, news reporter. A donation of food stuff and money was given to the Harry Frauhiger family. Devotions were presented by Olive Shoaf with prayer by Helen Welch and Helen Franz. Also, cards were signed and sent to Tom Noll and Mrs. Dora Bess.

During the social hour refreshments were served on tables beautifully decorated in keeping with the Christmas season. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Albert Brushwiller, Mrs. Wayne Burger, Mrs. Lester Burkhart, Mrs. Walter Cable, Mrs. Luther Chase, Mrs. Wayne Carpenter, and Mrs. Robert Cole. PHOEBE CLASS GIVES TO SHUT-INS A gift exchange was held and cookies were packed in boxes tor shut-ins at the recent meeting of the Phoebe Bible class of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church. Mrs. Ralph Yager read the devotions, also, the legend of the first creche. Mrs. William Feller, accompanied by Mrs. Edgar Gerber at the piano, sang. “Jesu Bambino,” followed by the group singing of Christmas carols. ■ ; ■ Mrs. Wesley Lehman, class pregident, presided during the business meeting. ’ < fc The members of the class and, their guest, M r s. Ella Mutschlar of Monterey Park, Calif., were invited to the dining room and seated at a long table beautifully decorated with Christmas appointments of gold, silver and white. White candles lighted the table. Delicious refreshments were served by' the hostesses, Mrs. C. L. August, Mrs. Edgar Gerber, Miss Matilda Sellemeyer and Mrs. Yager. ACADEMY OF FRIENDSHIP HAS SEASONAL MEETING The annual Christmas party of! the Academy of Friendship was held at the Moose home recently with sixteen Academy members attending. A delicious dinner, cooked and served by the Women of the Moose, was greatly enjoyed. A short business meeting was held following the dinner with the chairman, Mary Dixon, in charge. The hostesses were in charge of; the social hour, during which I games were played with prizes of lovely Christmas candles being 1 awarded to Bertha Zelt, Maggie Haley, Evelynn Plasterer, and 1 ; Mary Fravel. The door prize, a lovely poinsetta, was awarded to 1 Nancy Lengerich. A gift exchange was held with ' each member choosing her own gift from an attractively decorated table. The Academy pal gifts were distributed from under the beaul; tiful Christmas tree and the Aca--1 demy pals were revealed. •/ The group voted to dispose d Academy pals for the coming year ' and hold a $1 gift exchange in- ' stead. The next meeting will be held, on the third Monday in January, All members are requested to be‘ present. 4 The Profit and Pleasure Homp , Demonstration club will meet Tuesday evening, December 13, at the home of Mrs. Chester Habegger. A pot luck supper will be served at 6:30. The St. Catherine Study club i will meet Tuesday evening at 7 o clock at the Fairway restaurant. The St. Dominic Study club will have their Christmas party at the C. L. of C. hall Tuesday evening at 6 o clock. Each member is to bring a 50-cent gift for the exchange. The Calvary EUB Ladies Aid will meet at the home of Mrs. Harold Kelly Wednesday evening for their Christmas party. Those attending are asked to bring a present for the cheer sister and a dozen cookies. The meeting will begin at 7:30. The K. of C. A seven pound, one ounce baby boy was born at 7:40 a.m. Sunday to Arthur and Betty Longenberger Bertsch of route 6, Decatur. At 9:28 a.m. today an eight pound baby boy was born to Charles and Alice Bebout Mcßride of 804 West Adams street, Decatur. Ralph and Doris Anderson Gerardot of route 2, Monroeville are the parents of a baby girl born at 10:50 this morning. The baby weighed six pounds and ten and one half ounces. Driver Is Arrested On Speeding Charge Gordon Snyder. 21, route 5, Decatur, was arrested at 11 o’clock Saturday nioht on 13th street for speeding in a 30-mile-an-hour zone.
