(Editor’s Note) Do you have any questions about Social Security? We all do, don’t we? Send any . question you might have to Social Security Quiz, c/o Daily Democrat. You’ll find Your answer in this - column, which is published regu- ■ lariy.) b 1. Q—Suppose a young widow is receiving social security benefits for herself and her young children, then she takes a fullr time job. Does she lose all of r her social security benefits? i A—-No. She would lose only so . much of her share of the benefits as her earnings were over SI2OO t a year. For example a widow, ; receiving $232 a month for herself . and two children, could lose all ’ of her SB7 by working full time. [ She would still receive the $145 . for the children. Since each case is different, visit your social se1 curity office for details. ! 2. Q—My son was my sole support when he died last year. His , widow and children are receiving benefits. Would their payments be cut down if I applied for ' parent’s benefits? A—No. Under the new law, dependent parent’s benefits as high as SB7 a month can be paid without reducing widow’s and children’s- benefits on the same account. To avoid losing benefits you should apply immediately. 3. Q—What is the maximum bld-age insurance benefit at present and how is it figured? A—sl2o per month. If a worker was paid the maximum tax--1 able wages of $4200 in 1956, 1957 and 1958, and S4BOO in 1959 and 1960, his average monthly wage ’ for these 5 yeans would be $370. This average would pay a benefit of $l2O per month. This assumes the worker was paid at least S4BOO wages in 1960 before he retired. 4. Q—My husband earned maximum wages until his death in 1958. My three young children and I receive survivors benefits of $254.10 per month. If I remarry do we lose these benefits?

Buys Health Bond Help Fight TB aIW Use Christmas Seals The Psi lota Xi sorority has voted purchase of a $5 health bond, officials of the Christmas seal campaign in Adams county announced today. All proceeds from the annual sale are used in the fight on tuberculosis and to provide clinics and otherwise carry on the fight against the ’•white plague.” ’

A—Your widow's share of the benefits would end. You would still receive $203.10 per month for the children, until the check you receive tn December. The check for December which you receive in January, 1961. will be $245.40. This change & dun to the 1960 Amendments to the social security law. ' 5. Q— l am « woman school teacher and will be 62 in July, 1960. I have earned Maximum wages starting with 1955. I am retiring this June with 1960 wages of S3OOO. Should I apply ait age 62 or wait until I am 65? A—You must make this decision yourself; however, these facts may help. If you apply at age 62 you will receive $95.20 per month for life. If you wait until age 65, you would lose 36 payments at $95.20 or $3427.20. However, the payment starting at age 65 would be $119.00 per month. It would take you 12 years after age 65 to recover the $3427.20. 6. Q—l received my social security card in Indiana and all of my employment has been in Indiana. I am retiring and would like to move to Florida. Do I lose my social security benefits if I leave Indiana? A— No. When you move, all you need to do is to caH at our office before you leave, sign a change of address card, showing your new address, and your social security number. Your checks will then be mailed to your new address, as soon as the change is made by the Treasury Disbursing Office. 7. Q—l'm a school teacher past age 65 end going strong. I have no intention of retiring for several years. I’ve heard that teachers can draw social security benefits during the summer months. Is this true? A—Yes. The law is the same for everyone. Any month in which you earn SIOO wages or less and render no substantial services in self-employment you are entitled to a benefit.
