Fishing Season To Be Open In State Decatur area fishermen will be glad to know that the move to close the fishing season from May 1 to June 15 was defeated, and the Indiana department of conservation has issued three orders keeping the season aa it was for the past two years, Decatur attorney Lewis Lutz Smith took the local petitions, ten of them, with more than 500 signatures, to the meeting. Several hundred letters, telegrams, and other petitions were piled in the office, which was jammed with people for the hearing. Smith reported. The department expressed its regrets, and claimed that an error was at fault, and that the season definitely would not be closed. Hockey Results National League Detroit 3, New York 1. Illinois Democrats Pepper Republicans CHICAGO (UPD—lllinois Democrats peppered Republican flanks downsrtate today in retaliation against GOP attacks on alleged Chicago vote fraud. Chairman James A. Ronan of the Democratic State Central Committee .accused the GOP of ballot juggling in itnactetionally Republican areas outside Cook County 1 Chicago) land said there is "no danger of (Sen. John F.) Kennedy losing” Illinois’ 27 electoral votes. He said Democratic investigators "have found Very significant overcasts of -votes in several Republican strongholds downs&ate . . .-(end) evidence of tampering with ballots.” "The downstarte Republicans call these (things irregularities," Ronan said. “But when such things are found in Chicago, the Republicans refer to ithem ns ’vote fraud' and ‘vote theft.' ” In Illinois, “downstarte” implies virtually any county outside of Cook, whose population nearly balances that of rtihe rest of. the state’s 102 counties. Buys Health Bond Help Fight TB Use Christinas Seals The Monroe Lions club has voted purchase of a $5 health bond, officials of the Christmas seal campaign in Adams county announced today. All proceeds from the annual sale are used in the fight on tuberculosis and to provide clinics and otherwise carry on the fight against the “white plague.” Sen. Hartke Favors Boost In Exemption - WASHINGTON (UPI) — Sen. Vance Hartke, D-I-nd., today recommended easing the personal income tax load to fight the current recession. Hartke said he favored raising from S6OO a year to SBOO the income allowed before the federal income jtiaoc must be paid. This would leave the taxpayer with more money to spend and thus hefo speed the country’s economic recovery, he said. Hartke said enactment of the bill to provide federal aid in grants and loans to depressed ' area®—passed by rtihe Last Congress but vetoed by President Eisenhower-—would help his own .state, as well <as other parts of the country. Would Speed Renewal The legislation should be enacted 'again, he said, ithe urban renewal program speeded and highway building accelerated to put .the country on the road to better economic health. But Hartke said be did not plan ' to propose legislation for these remedies until he sees what the new Kennedy ladmihiatratton program includes. fft said preventive steps could -and should have been taken earlier. The signs were clear that the recession was imminent, he said, “but the (Republican) administration apparently hoped ■they’s go away.” ’Then .the admiaiatnatiate-gyept them under the rug during the political campaigns. Now it’s up ; to the Democrat s to regain the national status," Hartke said. Says Farmers Hurting Hartke said rtihe signals of an oncoming recession were as clear elsewhere in .the nation as in Indianaf.'where farmers have suffered from a prolonged depression and induMry again is hurting. He said the tact that construction bad declined, ithe national personal income level was bolstered by unemployment compensation, small business bankruptcies were on the 'increase, employment failed to keep pace with the population gain and to reflect i the nominal seasonal trends all pointed to hand times ahead. 1 Lagging automobile sales, heavy ■ inventories, declining capital in- ' vestments, the decreasing number ■ of orders for tools, he added, spelled the need for prompt gov- > ernment aaiton. » I CHICAGO LIVESTOCK } CHICAGO (UPl)—Livestock: Hogs 9,000; under 220 lb steady ’ to Strang, over 220 lb steady to 25 - lower; mixed No 1-2-3 190-220 lb 18.00 - 18.50; mostly 18.25 - 18.50; ' mixed No 1-2-3 200-240 lb 17.50 1 18.25; mixed No 23 and 3 220-240 3 lb mixed No 2-3 and 3 240-280 lb 16.50-17.25; load No 3 f 296 |b 16.25. 1 Cattle 1,000, calves 100; slaurh- ■ ter steers and heifers fully 1 steady; other classes steady; few a lots good to choice slaughter r steens 25.2547.75; few standard to good 33 00-25.00; tew good to ohdtee heifers 23.50-26.00; good fmd choice veators 21.00-25.00; few ’ prime 26.00. , ..
