CHARLES ARNOLD SPEAKS TO KIRKLAND LADIES CLUB Charles Arfiold, chairman of civU defense in Adams county, showed a very interesting film on “Civil Defense” at the November meeting of the Kirkland Ladies club, which was held at the country home of Mrs. Milton Hoffman recently. Mrs. Walter Egley led the group in the singing of the song of . the month, "O God, Our Help in Ages Past.” 'Die roll call was answered with an inexpensive Christmas gift which had been received and appreciated. The secretary’s report was given by Mrs. Edgar Zimmerman and Mrs. Ed Kolter presented the health and safety lesson. Mrs. Robert Kershner gave an interesting talk on the citizenship tour to Indianapolis. Mrs. Milton Scherry, the 1961 president, appointed Mrs. Carl Beiberich citizenship chairman and Mrs. Harvey Huffman health and safety chairman. Mrs. Albert Beineke presided over the business session. Secret pal gifts were given to Mrs. Walter Egley, Mrs. Milton Scherry and Mrs. Dorphus Schlickman. The next meeting will be a Christmas meeting with a pot luck supper at the Adams Central school December 12. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Milton Hoffman, Mrs. Carl Beiberich, and Mrs. Ernest Longenberger. MISS ELLEN WELCH IS HONORED AT MISSOURI Miss Ellen Welch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Welch, 133 Porter Vista, has been elected keeper of the archives of Theta Sigma Phi, professional journalism fraternity, at the University of Missouri. A graduate of Christian College at Columbia, Mo., Miss Welch is a senior in the‘university school of journalism. She is a member of the constitution committee of the Association of Women Students and housemanager of her social sorority, Chi Omega. •' MRS. Three new members, Mrs. Flossie Hower. Mrs. Harold Harvey, and Mrs. James Habegger were welcomed into the circle. Mrs. Russel Debolt closed the meeting with prayer. Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. John Barkley, with Mrs. Max Gilpin as the leader. EVERREADY CLASS ENTERTAINS TWO GUESTS Two guests, Mrs. Hazen Sparks and Mrs. Philsou were guests at the December meeting of the Everready Sunday school class, which was held in the church lounge recently. Devotions were given by Mrs. Homer Lower, who paid tribute to a deceased member, Miss Etta Mallonee. The business meeting was conducted by the president. Mrs. Asa Pollock. BT> PAUL MISSIONARY CHURCH HAS SUPPER Approximately fifty members of the St. Paul Missionary church, southeast of Decatur, enjoyed a supper and fellowship at the Blue Creek conservation house Thursday evening. This church recently conducted a six week “vote for Sunday School” contest in which each team received votes for lessons studied, Bibles brought, and staying for church. Os the two teams, the Conservative party received the most votes. The Progressive, I or losing party, entertained with a supper, and the conservatives served candy as a condolence. There was a period of devotions and a Bible game. The conservation house was beautifully decorated in a winter wonderland theme and recorded music added to the pleasure of the evening. Mrs. Glen Dickerson, of 903 North Fifth street, will be hostess to the Literature department of Woman’s club this evening at 7:45. The associate chapter of Tri Kappa sorority win have a Christmas party Tuesday evening at 6:30 at the home of Mrs. Wilbur Petrie. The city council of Beta Sigma Phi will meet with Mrs. Gladys Keller Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. Mrs. Doyle Collier will be hostess to the Church Mothers Study club Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. There will be a Christmas gadget exchange. The Loyal Daughters class of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church will meet at the home of, Mrs. Adolph Kolter Tuesday evening at 6 o’clock rather than 6:30 as previously announced. The Woman's Guild of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church will meet in the church social rooms Wednesday evening at 7:30. The K. of C. auxiliary card party will- be held Wednesday, December 14, rather than December 9. The Woman’s society of the Decatur Methodist church will meet Thursday at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be served at 12 noon. Mrs. Clyde Butler will have the worship and Mrs. Dan Tyndall -the program. The Order of Eastern Star will meet at the Masonic hall Thursday evening at 7:30. There will be a Christmas program and a 50-cent gift exchange. The Wesley class of the Methodist church will hold its annual Christmas party at the parsonage, 312 Limberlost Trail, Thursday evening. The committee will serve the dinner at 6:30. Members are requested to bring their own table service and a 25-cent gift. The Harvesters of the Mt. Zion United Brethren church will have their Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Charles Wagner Friday evening. This will be a birthday party for Jesus. All children are to bring dimes for the voyage fund. Refreshments will be served by the hostess. Unit 3 of the W.S.W.S. of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church will meet Friday at 7:30 with Mrs. Ivan Stueky.

Miss Patricia Rae Liechty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Liechty of route 1, Berne, and Ronald Kent Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown of Buffalo, N.Y., were united in marriage Saturday, in the chapel of the First Mennonite Church of Berne, before an altar banked with palms and fems, red poinsetta and white candelabra. The Rev. Gordon Neuenschwander officiated at the double ring ceremony, assisted by the Rev. Robert Liechty, Jr., uncle of the bride. Musical selections were presented by Mrs. Eugene Lehman, organist, and Mrs. Chester Beitler and Eugene Lehman, vocalists. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of silk bombazine and alecan lace over taffeta. The sculptured bodice was fashioned wtih a scalloped sabrina neckline outlined with re-embroid-ered alencan lace and sleeves of below the elbow length. Lace appliqued the princess panel, from which the billowing skirt swept into unpressed pleats to a circular chapel train.
The Past President's Parley of the American Legion auxiliary will have a family Christmas dinner Sunday evening at 5 o'clock at the Legion home. There will be a $1 gift exchange. Those unable to attend are asked to call the chairman, Mrs. Lawrence Rash. LOCALS William Lose, Sr., is recovering from surgery performed last week at the St. Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne. Charlie Fuhrman of Preble was honored yesterday by a birthday dinner at his home. The former township trustee was greeted by his brothers and sisters at the dinner. Word has been received in Decatur frdm Mrs. Miriam McDonald, former Decatur teacher. Mrs. McDonald is recovering from a recent illness, and her address is 52 Oak Manor Lane, Oak Manor, Pittsford. New York. Fred Kolter, secretary of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, who underwent surgery some time ago at Parkview memorial hospital in Fort Wayne, is reported much improved. He was brought to Decatur Sunday to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ray Heller. Gail Grabill and Miss Mildred Foley entertained the county board of education with a Christmas dinner Saturday. Twelve township trustees and their wives attended Miss Terrill Beahl, daughter of Mrs. Betty Beahl of Van Wert, 0., and Dean Johns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Johns, also of Van Wert, were married Sunday afternoon at the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren church in Van Wert. Those attending from Decatur were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Smith and son Bill, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith, Mrs. Lawrence Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith, Jr., Mrs. Frances Reidenbach and Miss Jacquie Reidenbach.
BIRTH At the Adams county memorial hospital: Clyde D. and Shirley Williamson Wolfe of 1215 Lewis Drive, Decatur, became the parents of a six pound, eight and one half ounce baby girl at 9:05 a.m. Sunday. A baby girl weighing five pounds, eleven ounces was bom to Ben and Victoria O’Campo Amclas of 1000 Washington street, Decatur, at 7:49 p.m. Sunday. ■ * J® At 5: 42 Sunday afternoon, a five pound, eleven ounce baby girl was bom to Dennis and Omaine Stucky Lehman of 'route 2, Berne.

The bride's tiered ven of imported illusion was caught to a crown of lace aflow with bugle beads and pearls and she carried a cascade of white roses, centered with a white orchid. Miss Carolyn Bryan was maid of honor in a gown of emerald green velvet. The basque bodice was fashioned with a scooped neckline and three quarter length sleeves. The full circular skirt was street length. A leaf clip in dual tones of emerald green with a short circular veil complemented the gown and she carried a cascade arrangement of red poinsettas. Mrs. Rolland Zimmerman, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid in a gown identically styled to that of the honor attendant’s. A two pieced dress of creamy beige brocade with black accessories was worn by the mother of the bride. The groom’s mother chose a two pieced light green brocade dress with dark green and black accessories. Corsages of white roses complemented both ensembles. f Gilford Brown served his brother as best man. The groomsman was Marshall Maynard and the guests were seated by James Taylor, brother-in-law of the bride, 'Rolland Zimmerman, brother-in-law of the bride. Jackson Wulliman and Callen Lehman. A reception was held following the ceremony in the. fellowship hall. The serving table was centered with a four tiered wedding cake and decorated with red poinsetta arrangements and white tapers. Hostesses at the reception were Mrs. Gilford Brown, the Misses Cecelia Lehman, Charlene Blosser, Carol Bieberich, and Jerry Gregg. Miss Althea Wulliman was in charge of the gift table and Mrs. James Taylor the guest book. Following the reception the bride changed to a beige wool sheath dress with brown accessories. The orchid from her bridal bouquet complemented her outfit. The new Mrs. Brown is a graduate of Adams Central high school and is now a junior at Ball State Teachers College in Muncie. Her husband was graduated from Amherst high school in Buffalo, N.Y., attended Ball State Teachers College and is employed with the Westinghouse project in Muncie. The couple will reside in Muncie. Plymouth Building Destroyed By Fire PLYMOUTH, Ind. (UPD— Authorities investigated today a fire which caused about $50,000 damage and destroyed a building at the Plymouth Fertilizer Co. Saturday night.

Scribe, Mary Ann Babcock State Accountant Is Found Dead Saturday INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — William J. Lancaster, 72, an accountant for the Indiana State Highway department, was found dead on an Indianapolis sidewalk late Saturday. Authorities said he probably died of diabetes.

The committee, headed by Wayne Messmore, Huntington, and Lynn Swinehart, Elkhart, cochairmen, heard plans for the building and discussed methods for raising funds. .■>, ' '■\ Christian Sommers Is Taken By Death Christian Sammers, 84, of Geneva, died Sunday at the home of his son, the Rev. Eugene C. Sommers, Monticello, after a long illness. Other survivors are Ms wife, Charlotte; a daughter. Mrs. Irene Shoemaker of Columbia City: an adopted daughter, Mrs. Pearl Harshbarger of Santee. Calif.; a brother and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Hardy & Hardy funeral home in Geneva, with burial in Riverside cemetery.
