Temptation Grows For Shoplifting NEW YORK (UPD — The temptation to shoplift becomes greater and greater. So says Saul Nesbitt, director of a packaging and industrial design firm in New York. A study by the research department of the firm shows that easy access to more and more kinds of merchandise in supermarkets and variety stores invites shopper theft. The study consisted of interviews with managers of self-service stores, chain store executives and manufacturers. “Our study indicates that today’s larcenous shopper is a pretty ingenious person,” Nesbitt said, “and the ungarded array of displayed products gives him or her a marvelous opportunity to exercise that ingenuity.” He cited the following examples of resourcefulness among shoplifters: —The supermarket customer who desires a large bottle —a 79 cent jug of salad dressing rather than the 41 cent size. Under pretense of reaching a decision, she loiters in front of the display and furtively switches the bottle caps upon which the prices are stamped. There’s a good chance her switch of bottle caps will go undetected at the check-out counter. The light-fingered lady who doesn t hesitate to heist a small size item and slide it into a package already in her cart for tallying at the check-out counter. Result: she gains by carrying out one unpaid-for article. Generally, Nesbitt said, pilfering in self-service stores is becoming more difficult to control. Among other problems he cited are the huge tote-bag purses, fashionable, but also a boon to the female shoplifter. “Few customers realize that the loss of goods pilfered in selfservice stores runs into millions annually,” said Nesbitt. “Fewer than 20 per cent of those interviewed appreciated the fact that the consumer was the one who was utimately out of pocket every time a shoplifter made a successful heist.” Boy Scout Troop 63 Will Meet Thursday Boy Scout troop 63 will meet at 7 o'clock Thursday evening at the Scout cabin in Hanna-Nuttman park. All members and those interested in joining the troop should be at the Legion home by 6:45 p.m. Transportation will be provided.

Beer And Pretzels Served By Airline UTICA, N.Y. (UPD—The DC3 carried the load in the gas light era of airline travel — and now one airline has taken that grand old dame of a plane back to the real gas light era. Decked out with red velvet drapes, antimacassars, brocade wallpaper, gilt-framed prints and genuine electricity-lit gas lights, two Mohawk Airlines DC3’s are flying a beer-and-pretzel circuit, as opposed to the opulent Jet Age champagne flights on other lines. Naturaly enough the eastern local airline calls the flights Gas Light Service, and numbers them 1890 through 1893. The “gentlemen only” service links Buffalo and Albany, N.Y., and Syracuse, N.Y., and Boston. The journey into the past starts right on the steps of the DC3 with a pretty stewardess decked out in a Lillian Russell-type gown. Once off the ground, stewardesses like Joan. .Barr owma n roam through the antique setting selling nickel cigars, and dispensing free mugs of cold beer, pretzels and sharp cheese. The fact that the men are encouraged to smoke cigars, and a pipe, if they brought one, is probably the best reason that the Gas Light flights exclude women. Even the schedule for the service looks and’reads like an old time railroad timetable. And the passengers are cautioned not to “open the windows while we are passing through tunnels.” The DC3, which as a plane dates back to the early 1930’5, was for many years the main airlines carrier, and during World War II built a reputation as a reliable workhorse. Many of them are still in service on shortbaul airlines in the U.S., as well as abroad. Mohawk, which utilizes Convairs for most of its flights, still has several DC3’s, and is putting them back in service to fill gaps in'its east-west route between Boston and Buffalo. It was in deciding to do that that someone came up with the idea of giving a new twist to service on an old plane. The airline plans to run the Gas Light flights for about a year, at the end of which its DC3 fleet will have been disposed of. After that? The DOS’s probably will go on living up to their Good Old Days reputation despite jet competition. INDIANAPOLIS LIVESTOCK INDIANAPOLIS (UPD — Livestock:
