CHURCH OF GOD WOMEN HAVE BIRTHDAY PARTY An array of beautifully decorated tables greeted women members of the Church of God as they gathered Thursday evening in the church fellowship hall for their annual birthday anniversary party. The decorations of the tables were fashioned after the four seasons of the year. All tables used a cake as their main centerpiece. The first season, spring, was pictured in typical spring colors, pink, yellow and green. Serving as hostesses at this table were Mrs. Kenneth Mitchel and Mrs. Holman Egly. For the summer months a traditional wedding setting was used. A bride and bridegroom centered the table and wedding bells were placed on each end. The hostesses, Mrs. Eddie Call and Mrs. Robert Strickler, served a beautifully decorated sheet cake from this table. Arrangements of brown and yellow were used by Mrs. Charles Frank and Mrs. James Frey in decorating their table for fall, and the winter table, decorated by Mrs. Glen Manley and Mrs. Richard Peterson, featured St. Valentine day. A snow white cake decorated with red hearts was the outstanding feature of this setting. The special hostesses, Mrs. Guy Agler, Mrs. Kenneth Watkins and Mrs. Floyd Mitchel, served ice cream and coffee. Mrs. Clarence Strickler read the 96th Psalm for the devotions, Mrs. Huston Bever offered prayer and Mrs. Farma Geyer sang. Although Lewis stepped down as president, he remains chairman of the UMW welfare fund, which paid out $lB millions more last year than taken in. The fund may have laid itself open for criticism because it eliminated some card-holders who have been out of the coal industry a year or more. The convention opened in a year of declining employment in the coal industry Currently, ■ about 200.000 members are actually working in the coal fields, compared to about 250.000 four years ago.
