Navy Veterans May Reenlist ’ I ■ Navy veterans discharged with--1 in the last four years may how reenlist at their old rates, if their rate is still approved, it was announced here today. A department of the navy announcement has provided enlistment opportunities for former Navy enlisted personnel who were discharged after the Korean hostilities ended, without causing the reenlistee to lose a rating attained while on active duty. Former regular navy personnel who have been discharged over three months but less than four years, and naval reserve personnel who have been discharged or released over three months but less than two years may now enlist in the regular navy- if their naval service was performed in any of 57 of the navy’s 68 rates. ' All pay grades are included in the rates desired. In addition, ex-regular navy personnel who meet eligibility requirements for enlistment within the fifty-seven rates available, who active duty more than four but were discharged or released to inless than six years ago may reenlist in the next lower rate. Naval reserve personnel whose release occurred more than two but less than fqur years ago have also been extended the reenlistment opportunity. Interested persons are urged to I contact Chief Charles Gripe, at the Decatur selective service office every Tuesday from 9 a m. until noon, or a recuiter at the j Huntington office in the post of- ; fice there daily.
World Council Moves To Unity ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (UPI) — The policy-making central committee of the World Council of Churches opened a nine-day conference here today and put the question of relations with Roman Catholicism high on the agenda. The 90-member committee heard the executive committee report on relations with the Roman Catholic church. Also up for discussion will be the problem of world over-population. Altogether. 300 leaders of the council’s 172 member churches in more than 50 countries are attending the meeting. The conference aims at discussing ways in which the world’s Protestant Anglican and Orthodox churches can move toward unity.
