automobile manufacturers banquet at Detroit. Eisenhower plans to do much of his campaigning this fall in nonpartisan settings. He made this clear at his news conference Wednesday when he confirmed rep(|rts from other White House sources who said he could help the Republican cause without addressing party rallies in such traditional setHpgs as armdries and ball parks. The President told his news conference that he would do all he could to elect Vice President Richard M. Nixon, the GOP presidential nominee, and Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, the vice presidential candidate. “Now this doesn't mean that I possibly should be out on the hustings and making partisan speeches,” he said. “I'm not so sure . . . that it would be a good thing. I’ve got a lot of other responsibilities %nd I’ve got a lot of other commitments around the country.” However Eisenhower’s schedule develops. Republican campaign managers hope it will include some partisan speeches under party sponsorship and carried on nationwide television.
