Purdue Exhibits At Indiana State Fair • Some scoops from Purdue will be included in the new edition of the Indiana state fair. August 31 through September 8. A tour of the Purdue building on the fairgrounds wifi tell a story from A to V—or from agronomy to veterinary research. Here’s a rundown on some "scoops” of interest to fairgoers: 1— A new Swiss-like cheese developed by the dairy department will be introduced at the fair. 2— A new method of preserving dressed poultry by means of radiation will be demonstrated in the poultry display. tracers in plant breeding will be shown. - — 4— The water shed plan —a means of preventing flooding by use of dams, diversions, crop rotation—will be explained in the soil conservation display. 5— A central grain-handling system for farm operations will be the theme of the agricultural engineering exhibit. Fairgoers can also: Learn just how fast they read •in a developmental reading display which will include a ute film and pacing machines built specially for the lair). And. learn bow to ‘‘Avoid the Wolf Calories.” (The home economics department will show teenagers what makes a wholesome snack.) Three eye-pleasing displays will be a greenhouse to show problems of horticulture, a turntable of In-diana-grown. decorated Christmas trees which show how ‘*€hearing” improves a tree's shape (forestry) and a lawn exhibit in modern Setting to show types of grasses and lawn treatments (agronomy). Animal science will show the effort being waged to produce beef animals with a higher percentage of lean meat. Another display will show how agriculture is becoming "Agribusiness,” and features a 5minute film on agricultural research. In addition, 4-H clubbers from all over the state will be baking cookies, showing crafts work, safety, tractor maintenance — the whole picture of dub projects. Other exhibits will be the engineering display of computing equipment, metallurgical and agricultural engineering, and the veterinarian department's exhibit showing opportunities in the field.

Man Confesses To Unsolved Slaying PENDLETON, Ind. (UPI) — A prisoner who was questioned and released several times last year in the unsolved slaying of Gus L. Knight, 71, Anderson, confessed unexpectedly Tuesday that he killed Knight.

The prisoner waa sent to the Indiana Reformatory here June 1 to serve a 2-14 year term for assault and battery in another case. He was sentenced from Madison County. Reformatory Supt. Paul B. Whelchel. said the prisoner in his confession said he shared a bottle •f whisky with Knight Feb. 7, robbed him of S4O and beat him

with a tire tool. Whelchel quoted the prisoner as saying he left Knight in a ditch north of Anderson. but fearing he would freeze to death returned and found him dead. According to the prisoner’s statement, he then moved the body to the abandoned farm. Branham and another man were sitting in a parked car nearby when police found the body. Both were questioned and denied even knowing Knight, Whelchel said.

Police said the glass - paneled door of the plush home had been sprayed with six bullets from a .22 caliber automatic rifle,. Furlong was killed by a bullet that struck him at close range between the upper lip and his nose. Only Tuesday, Furlong had been put under a restraining order to prevent him from bothering his wife, who had recently filed di- ' vorce proceedings.
