Says Parker Hiding Unemployment Truth COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (UPI)— State Sen. Matthew Welsh of Vincennes, the Democratic nominee for governor, charged his rival for the governorship Sunday with deliberate efforts to misinform Hoosiers. Welsh said in a speech at an Allen County Democratic meeting that Lt. Gov. Crawford Parker is hiding the truth about unemployment in Indiana. He said it is more widespread than in three cities which Parker reported would get federal money to relieve the situation. ‘•The truth is that there is considerably more Unemployment than in just three cities, that industrial jobs are declining and are lower now than when the HandleyParker regime took over, and that there is no such legislation either on the books or under consideration by the Congress” to aid the unemployment situation in Indiana, Welsh said. “And most revealing,” Welsh said, “is the fact that Parker knew this at the time he attempted to hold out federal money as bait to the very people whom he had failed in his fumbling attempt to bring more jobs to Indiana. “I know that Hoosiers are sick and tired of misinformation, half truths and misleading reports that have become commonplace in the
Handley - Parker administration.
