HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB HAS PICNIC Members of the Decatur Home Demonstration club enjoyed a picnic supper at tile Hanna-Nuttman Park shelter house Wednesday evening. Mrs. Hunter the president, reminded* all members about their donations for the 4-H fair. She also made mention of the trip to Chicago in October and the outing at Bluffton Park on August 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., to which all members of the county are welcome. Members needing transportation should call Mrs. Joseph Hunter. MBS LAWRENCE KOHNE ENTERTAINS PINOCHLE CLUB Mrs. Lawrence Kohne entertained the Decatur Pinochle club recently. Six rounds of cards were played and Mrs. Robert Ashbaucher, Mrs. Vernon Custer and Mrs. Raymond MfeDougal were the winners with the highest scores. Mrs. Cal Magley received the traveling prize. During the business meeting It was decided to have a patio dinner at the home of Mrs. McDougal ' August 18 at 6 o’clock. During the evening the guests 1 were served desert and coffee by the hostess. The Decaur Flying club will meet at the home of Dr. Weisman at 8 p.m, Tuesday. The Olive Rebekah Lodge will hold their regular meeting Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Odd Fellow’s Hall. Hie Eagles auxiliary will meet Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Eagles hall.

LOCALS Judge l Clarence R. McNabb, of Fort Wayne, Democratic candidate for the Indiana supreme court, visited in Decatur Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. John Baumann and daughter Sandy are spending a two week vacation at Crooked Lake near Angola. Alex J. Scheiner has returned home from the St. Joseph hospital after undergoing major surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Amacher of Preble left today for a three weeks’ vacation in Oregon and Washington. • •» Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ringle and daughter Janice of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Mrs. Edna Eaton of Vancouver, Wash., were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Amacher of Preble. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Case and daughter Darlene, and Mr. and Mrs. Max Haugk and son David, left Saturday for a week’s stay at thelakes. Mrs. Edwin D. Booth and daughter, Mrs. Edwina Hart, and grandchildren Bobby and Christina will join them later in the week. Miss Pamella Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Anderson of 1705 W. Monroe street celebrated her 18th birthday anniversary July 20. Miss Anderson is a student at Decatur high school. Miss Becky Maddox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Watson Maddox, and Miss Marie Barlette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barlett, spent Thursday and Friday on the Ball State campus where they took part in a two-day orientation and pre-entrance testing period. Among those dismissed from the Clinic hospital in Bluffton Friday were Walter Messel of Geneva and Melissa Grandlienard, seven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Grandlienard. The Grandlienard girl broke two bones in her right wrist in a tall at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Raymond. Wearing a gown of white embroidered nylon organdy over taffeta, Miss Esther Mae Brandt became the bride of Kenneth Wayne Fox at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Zion Lutheran church of Schumm, Ohio. The couple exchanged vows before the Rev. E. H. Zacharias. Music was provided by Miss Velma Schumm, organist, and Mrs. Norma Lee Luginbill, soloist. The bride is the daughter «f Ur. and Mrs. Charles Roebuck of Rockford, Ohio, and the parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fox of Marcellus, Mich. Charles Roebuck escorted his daughter, to the altar. The fitted embroidered bodice of the floor length bridal gown featured a wide V-neckline and long sleeves which ended in embroidered points over her hands and fastened with pearl buttons as did the back of the dress. The bride’s fingertip veil held in place her rhinestone tiara. She carried a white Bible topped with an arrangement of white baby roses and streamers studded with rose buds. The maid of honor, Mrs. Alice Bowling, a friend of the bride, Appeared in a gown of blue nylon organdy over blue taffeta, featuring a taffeta cummerbund and sash, a wide V-neckline, short selves, and finished with a ballerina length skirt. Today Is Rodeo Day At Scout Jamboree COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. <UPI> — Fify-five thousand Boy Scouts streamed into a giant arena for rodeo day at the National Boy Scout Jamboree today. The Rodeo Cowboys Assn, provided its best performers. And, the weather was at its hottest, dustiest, wild westiest best for a rodeo on the 2,000 acres of the Reverse J Diamond ranch covered with the tents of the jambore encampment.

For her daughter’s wedding Mrs. Roebuck chose a peacock blue flowered rayon dress with white accessories. Mrs. Fox wore a blue two pieced dress, also with white accessories. Both mothers pinned white orchid corsages to their ensembles. Charles Brandt, a cousin of the bride, was best man and the ushering was handled by Allan Gribler and Donald Brandt, cousins of the bride. A reception was held immediately following the ceremony in the church basement. The tables were decorated with colored bow;s and ribbons. The main table was centered with a three layer wedding cake trimmed with blue roses. Servers were Mrs. Madelyn Hetrick and Miss Janice Engel of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and Columbus, Ohio, respectively. Joyce Keller was in charge of the gift book. For their wedding trip the bride changed to a black and white checked taffeta dress with a wide black collar dotted with sequins. Miss Kathleen Kohne At U. Os Hawaii Miss Kathleen Kohne, sophomore at Northwestern University, is studying American history and golf at the University of Hawaii summer session — reputed to be one of the largest and most unique in the nation. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald J. Kohne, 304 West Adams Street, Decatur. More than 8,000 students are enrolled — some 2,000 coming from the mainland representing every state and the District of Columbia. Twenty-two foreign countries are represented. Marion Man Is Found Dead In Automobile MARION, Ind. <UPI> — Grant County Prosecutor Robert Faust said today he would ask a grand jury to investigate the death of Lawrence Eddie Handerson, 34, Marion, whose body was found in a parked car outside a local tavern. Henderson’s body was found in a car belonging to Lewis Thackston, Marion, police said. Coroner Dr. Henry Alderfer said death was caused by a brain hemorrhage received accidentally in a fall. Heavy Rainfall In Southern Areas Adams county received some heavy rain in the part of the county over the week-end. Monroe township was the hardest hit with 2.6 incae* of rain, Ben Mazelin reported. He also reported that the Ben Striker farm, about 2 miles from him, recefved four inches of rainfall. Harold Moser of French township reported I Vi inches of rain, while Ivan Huser of Hartford township reported 1.85 inches. Decatur received .15 inches of rain Saturday afternoon.

Kennedy Arranges Pre-Campaign Talks PORT, Mass. (UPI) —Sen. John F. Kennedy begins a two-week round of pre-campaign conferences today on topics ranging from political warfare in New York to unrest among the natives in Africa. New York Mayor Robert F. Wagner was scheduled to arrive here this morning for a talk with the Democratic presidential candidate on the split between organization and insurgent Democrats in the nation’s largest city. The broad scope of Kennedy’s plans for two remaining weeks at . his summer home on Cape Cod was reflected in an appointment Tuesday with Toy Mboya, labor leader in the British protectorate of Kenya and chairman of the All-Africa People’s Conference in Ghana two years ago. Wednesday, Kennedy will see J Leonard Reinsch, an Atlanta, Ga., radio-television executive who will be Kennedy’s consultant in those fields during the' campaign. Friday, Kennedy will be visited by Adlai E. Stevenson, his 1952-1956 predecessor as Democratic standard bearer and now one of his top policy advisers. Next Monday or Tuesday, tentative plans have been made for Kennedy to be visited by his vice presidential running mate. Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas.

Two-car Accident Here This Morning A two-ear accident occurred at the junction of U. S, 224 and east Monroe street extended this morning. Mrs. Audrey A. Lee, 38, route 5, Decatur, was coming into Decatur and as" she slowed for the stoo sign at the corner of U. 5. 224 her brakes failed and she hit a ear driven by L. J. Montague. 26, of Decatur, which was traveling southeast. Damage was estimated at S3OO to each vehicle. Sheriff Merle Affolder investigated the accident. Two Posts Knocked Down By Automobile . Terry Snyder, 18, route 2, Bryant, lost control of his auto one mile south of Berne at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, knocking down two posts belonging to a drive-in restaurant. Trooper Dan Kwasneski and deputy Charles Arnold investigated. Grain Doors Catch Fire Here Saturday The fire department was called to a fire Saturday at 5:35 p.m. at tjie Central Soya Co. A bunch of grain doors had caught on fire at the north end of the plant. Both trucks went out on the fire and were back at 6:10 p.m.

Earl K. Long Faces Desperate Struggle ALEXANDRIA, La. <UPI> — Earl K, Long, Louisiana's cantankerous 64-year-old ex-governor, today faces a do-or-die struggle against a man 30 years younger, whose seat in Congress Long needs to win to survive politically. i “Uncle Earl," out-polled in his “back yard” Bth District by Rep. Harold B. McSween in the first Democratic primary during the weekend, is pledged to intensify his rock-fisted campaigning until the Aug. 27 runoff. “I ran his shirttail off,” Long boasted, despite a 4,000 vote edge for McSween. t Long got 26,058 votes, carrying three of the district’s eight parishes. McSween |ook five parishes with a 29,820 total vote. Former State Rep. Ben F. Holt ran third with a mere 10,266. Franklin Electric To Reduce Workers A reduction of 40 workers will be in effect at Franklin Electric in Bluffton starting Aug. 12, when the force returns from its annual two-week vacation. This will be in addition to the cut of 72 made in May from the peak employment of some 900 workers last winter. The total cut is approximately 12%.

Evansville Man Kills Wife, Commits Suicide EVANSVILLE, Ind. <UPI) — A former Evansville bartender shot and killed his wife early Sunday, then died several hours later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
