Dalen Showalter Is New Auburn Mentor AUBURN, Ind. <UPD — Dalen Showalter will return here’ where he spent part of his boyhood to coach the Auburn high school basketball team, school officials said today. . - Showalter lived here in 1949 when his father. Vincennes coach Keith Showalter, took the school’s hardwood squad to the state basketball tourney where it, was. beaten by eventual state champion Jasper. Burdick's Margin Now 1,154 Votes BISMARCK, N.D. (UPI) — Officiab canvass results from 52 of North Dakota’s 53 counties today gave Democratic Rep. Queptin Burdick a 1.154 vote margin over Republican Gov. John Davis in last week's special senatorial election. With only Ransom county unreported. Burdick had 104,578 vfites and Davis 103,424. Geneva Principal Resigns Position _ David Rankin, principal at Geneva for the past two years, has resigned that position to become principal at Highland school in Anderson. The Anderson school, including the upper six grades, has an enrollment of 850. Rankin eame to Adams county from Gray, in Jay county. A successor for Rankin is expected to be named Over 700 Swimmers In Meet At Fort Wayne FORT WAYNE. Ind. <UPD - More than 700 swimmers from all parts of the eastern United States will be here this weekend for the 2nd annual Fort Wayne Open AAU swimming and diving meet? Officials said there are 715 entries representing 42 swim clubs in 30 states, mostly east of the Mississippi River. The competition is open to both men and women of all age classifications. Accidentally Kills Younger Brother GARY, Ind. <UPD — A 9-year-old East Gary boy accidentally shot and killed his younger brother and wounded a companion critically late Wednesday when the three boys were playing with a shotgun in his parents’ home. Gordo* Foster, 8. was killed by the blast.- Billy Dillard, 12, was .taken to a hospital in critical con|dition.
Marathon Flight Record By Conrad MINNEAPOLIS (UPD— Seat of the pants pilot Max Conrad, who wore out a pair of trousers in a marathon 6.921 mile flight, said today he thought his record would stand for some time. The ,57-year-old Winona, Minn., grandfather Wednesday night completed eight trips around bn 865mile Minneapolis - Chicago - Des Moines course to break a Czechoslovakian pilot's record of 3,083 miles around a closed circuit route in a light plane. Conrad, who holds two other world records for distanceflights.

Conrad was 1 welcomed by his wife and Lt. Gov. Karl Rolvaag, who read a proclamation by Gov. Orville Freeman setting today as "Max Conrad Day” in .Minnesota. “I need a haircut," Conrad commented after his wife greeted him with a kiss. Conrad was nursing a stiff knee but said that otherwise he felt all right. Mrs. Conrad revealed her husband wore out the seat of his pants on the flight. “They were absolutely threadbare when he came down,” she said.
